I think you should be able to, but it may be worth contacting medical schools to see if your biology grade is good enough (which I think it would be but I'm not entirely sure).

I forgot to mention, I did AQA Triple Science , and I was just 3 marks off a 7 for both Biology and Physics

Those are amazing grades 🙂
Have a look at the requirements for some medical schools you’d be interested in applying to
The only thing I’d point out if that your Biology grade isnt the greatest (I acknowledge you were a little off a 7)- are you taking this at a level?

Im unsure, i think it possibly depends on the uni and their blanket policy on resits 🙂 (might be worth starting to thread to ask this?)

Well, it would depend on your school as well, as higher-achieving schools are more likely to have their students achieving all 8's and 9's at GCSE. So once that kind of contextual information has been considered, the impressiveness of your grades could be viewed differently.

So, I've been doing some research, and I've found that Cambridge says that: "most students that apply have at least four or five grade 7-9s at GCSE", but many of you keep saying all 8s and 9s are needed, and I'm starting to question whether my grades (999888766) are are good enough to get into Cambridge (or at least the top 5 universities) and study medicine, plus my school told me that my average grade (attainment 8 score) is 7.9, so these are my grades:
9 - Religious Studies, English Language and Literature
8 - Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths
7 - Geography
6 - Biology and Physics (AQA - 3 marks away from a 7 in both)
So what would you make out from my results
(p.s. I am considering resting Biology, but I'm just worried it might clash with my A-Level studies

At my school prize-giving, I won the following awards:
Year 10 Award
Emmaus (EAL and SEN) Award
Duke of Edinburgh Award

I've also completed in UKMT challenge as Bebras Competitions, and won a bronze certificate in the JMC 2021, and a silver certificate in the IMC 2024

With all said so far, am I a good candidate for medicine at Cambridge (or at least the top 5 universities)

Your grades are fine, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up or fixate on Cambridge (or any university for that matter). Cambridge is, as you know, an incredibly competitive university and medicine is a competitive course anywhere. While Cambridge is actually not much more competitive than most medical schools, you should be aware that the majority of applicants will get rejected. Essentially, expect rejection. You don’t all grade 8-9s to get into Cambridge. Many people with straight 8-9s at GCSE get rejected every year and a select few with no grades 8-9 at GCSE get made offers every year. Having good GCSEs will not guarantee you a place. All GCSEs do is indicate your academic ability. I wouldn’t resit biology, as there are many medical schools that a) would accept a 6 in GCSE biology or b) don’t use GCSEs as part of the shortlisting criteria for interview. Universities like UCL and Imperial only ask that you meet the minimum GCSE requirements and won’t consider your grades beyond that.

Honestly, it’s hard to tell since you’re still young but everyone has a chance. However, I’d advise you to find extracurriculars that suit the progression of transitioning into medicine to allow you to stand out.

Yeah you probably could if your A levels are good. But, it's worth noting that a medicine degree is highly scientific, and based off your GCSE results your strengths may lie somewhere else, and you may not do well in A level Biology for example. Are you sure you want to do medicine?

I also forgot to say, my school has an average attainment 8 score of around 52.3/90, whilst my individual attainment 8 score is 79/90 (average attainment 8 GCSE grade as 7.9)

I really recommend doing some medical extracurriculars. (E.g. A uni is more likely to accept someone that has curriculars focusing on their passions like medicine - instead of someone with just good grades.)

Plus, we can’t say if you’re a good candidate or not because you’ve only provided information loads of people may also have - nothing stands out that relates to medicine.
