Hi yes chemistry can be really difficult! Is your teacher choosing and assignment topic for your class or are you picking one yourself, as some are a lot easier to do than others and you can pick up more marks that way.

If it’s SQA highers you’re sitting then I would really recommend jab chem as if you don’t understand a past paper question then they have worked out solutions and explanations which was super helpful for me.

A lot of my classmates also said achieve and scholar were useful websites for revision which you can access through your glow email account.

What unit are you currently studying?

I would maybe recommend the bright red chemistry textbook even though it is directed towards sqa highers it has really good general information about moles and calculations that will be similar to your course.

Miss adam’s chemistry youtube channel also has great video explanations if you learn better with videos.

Please feel free to pm me of you have any more questions!

Thankyou I will check these out I think I struggle with understanding how to calculate things rather than understanding definitions

what is it that you did for english critical essay and reading? im currently doing the movie, the shining by stanley kubrick and ive got no clue what to write for it as there's barely any resources on it.

also is there a way you could read my geography assignment and check if it'd total up to 30 marks! aiming high because i got 20/20 for nat5 and dont wanna let myself down this year though its difficult

Hello! Do you have any advice for the higher biology assignment and study tips or methods that helped you achieve an A in bio? I understand most of the content we are covering but i find myself struggling to remember parts of the information ive studied.

Hi! For revision what I found most helpful was Mr Mitchell’s higher bio videos on youtube, and I used to just watch them over and over until I understood the concepts so well that I was able to basically regurgitate the information into past paper questions haha. I’ve always found videos really helpful for me though and I know they don’t work for everyone. Personally flash cards never worked for me but I know loads of people in my class that used them and found them super helpful.
My class did enzymes for the assignment and my particular group did the effect of concentration on enzyme activity, which was a really good topic as it’s part of the course so the underlying bio was quite simple to write and I knew the results I was looking to achieve in the experiment. Looking at the past examples of write ups on the sqa understanding standards page definitely helped to see where others were picking up or losing marks.
Let me know if you have any more questions about anything!

hey! my class studied the godfather and the great gatsby and we could choose what to write about in the exam. that’s definitely difficult if there’s not many resources on the shining, do you know if that’s the only thing you’ll be studying? my teacher provided a lot of notes and resources on what we covered which helped a lot.
yeah that’s no problem at all, send me whenever and i’ll have a look! well done for full marks in nat5 as well that’s really good!

hi! for maths i’d recommend mr thomas on youtube, as he explains how to do questions and then goes over different examples. once you understand a topic i would just do lots of past paper questions on it for practice.
i found highermaths.co.uk really helpful as they have lots of questions on every topic. they also offer extra resources with questions that have worked solutions and that’s £20 for a year. i bought this and thought it was really useful, but they do have a lot of free resources as well so it’s not really necessary to buy.
DLBmaths on youtube has worked solutions on all the questions in higher past papers, so if you’re not sure how to do a specific question then his videos can be really useful.
hope this was a little bit helpful!

Hey! RUAE can definitely be difficult, but I think once you get the hang of the answers the sqa are looking for it’s a lot easier. If you have the time, I would always try and put an extra answer, so if it was a 4 mark question, I would put 5 points if I could find one.
I’m not sure if you know the process of answering the questions but if you are not sure where to pick up marks, i’d be happy to send you some of the slides my teacher used last year that explain how to answer questions if you want?
If there’s a specific question type you’re struggling with lmk and I can try and explain the best I can!

Hey! What I found most helpful for maths was definitely just practicing questions over and over until I’d memorised how to answer them. I used highermaths.co.uk which was really helpful as they have a ton of questions on every topic. Definitely keeping up with maths is a good idea, so once you’ve covered a new topic in class I would go home and do a few questions on it if you have time as that will help a lot when exams come around.
For chemistry, I found the bright red higher chem textbook really helpful for understanding concepts, and once I understood topics more I found answering questions a lot easier. Miss adam’s chemistry on youtube is also good if you prefer learning through videos. In chemistry I was just constantly doing past papers and I actually just memorised a lot of answers as you’ll find the sqa start repeating questions or doing really similar ones. For example, in the periodicity topic you’ll always use the same answer structure for trend questions.
It’s definitely not too late get an A in exams as I know people that have failed their prelims and then gotten As in their exams. Please lmk if you have any more questions!!

I studied Higher Maths last year and I would highly recommend revising every couple days to make sure you're not behind because the stuff could get a bit tricky.

Also I think there's a thing called MathsCoach that was just launched this year organised by Edinburgh Uni which is a online chat room where you can connect with maths students who can help you for free every Tuesday and Thursday. I personally haven't tried it myself but give it a shot and let me know if it was good!
