Engineeering EPQ ideas!!!

hey guys! I'm thinking of mechanical or aerospace engineering and would really appreciate some EPQ ideas.
I was thinking evolution of materials used in planes but I don't want to sound too historical. Also when looking around I found a question that was interesting 'why do we use hydraulic systems in aircrafts instead of pneumatic?' I'm not sure if its a good topic yet tho. Please give suggestions and advice:smile:))

same also planning on doing an epq in something aerospace engineering aswell, i thought maybe about creating an artefact e.g. a wind tunnels but atm im not sure how id go about building something like that, another idea for me is possible future flight methods/technology, I think your topic might be very specific but it does sound interesting as long as ur able to find information and research on it u should be good.

I'll give you an idea of what I chose when I did EPQ. I'd like to put it out there that I never finished my EPQ as I later dropped it. I focused on clashes between engineers and businessmen and how such clashes compromise engineering ethics. My main example was the Challenger space shuttle incident, as the BBC documentary really interested me.

The evolution of materials sounds interesting but it doesn’t sound like youll be doing any engineering. Technical history is very interesting but it is contextual not actually what id consider science or engineering.

But it depends what you want to do.

There are some fundamental reasons why pneumatics are not suited to aircraft in the air, you can think about safety and volume characteristics of aircraft, your “working fluid” on aircraft really cannot be sensitive to change in atmospheric pressure, should be incompressible and aircraft are very volume sensitive. Its really about fluid properties & characteristics and which ones are suitable for the application.

Hi,
I completed my EPQ on the balance of motorsports environmental impact versus its economic and technological benefits so maybe you could look into the impact of either commercial or pleasure flights cost versus the economical and technological impact these industries have. My biggest advice is to pick a topic that you are passionate about and that is not to generic as a more specific question becomes easier to answer.
Hope this helps
