Year 13 grade anxiety

Hi, I'm catastrophizing over my current grades. So at the end of last year, I was predicted A*AA/B in english, biology and chemistry. Last year, I messed up my chem mock and got a C when I was on track for a B the whole year, and I ended up missing my A predicted. Most of the unis I apply to require AAA (biomedical science). Now, I revised so hard for a topic chem test in the weeks leading up to it in an attempt to prove I could do better (the side i struggle with is maths) and whilst the maths was fine, the test was so time pressured I ended up having to miss an entire question, which I know lost me quite a bit of marks. I just feel like this was my chance to do better, and I messed it up all over again. I understand it was a topic test and there'll be others, but it was the first test of this year. Is there time to improve to an A before UCAS applications get sent out? I feel totally inadequate. I don't think I'll be able to apply for the unis I want if I get A*AB (my A* is in english, and most courses require AA in biology and chemistry), so I feel hopeless. Any advice?

Try speaking to your teachers about it. They might be able to raise your predicted grade. Analyse why you got a C in your mock and where you went wrong. Figure out the areas you need to improve on and how you will do it. Lay out a clear plan of how you're going to try and improve your grades, show them that you're dedicated and will follow through with your plan. Explain to them why the grade increase matters to you due to your university choices. That has worked for my friends and they got their predicted grades raised.

That being said, there is absolutely no point in trying to get your predicted grade raised if you don't feel like you'll be able to meet it. Having it raised will help you gain offers from universities, but in the end, you need to be able to meet those offers.

i'm in a similar situation to you atm, my further maths grade was a B in my summer mock although I was hoping for an A*/A. i talked to my teacher and asked for a resit because I need at least A*A*A for uni, and she was happy to do it. teachers are generally much more helpful than you think they'll be
assuming you're not applying to oxbridge, you've got over four months before applications get sent out, which is plenty of time to improve your grades. although this is easier said than done, remember that you've got the grades you need in 2 subjects so you have a great foundation already. good luck
