Year 11 A-Level options

I want to study accountancy or economics at uni(maybe at LSE) after A-Levels but I’m not sure what are the best A-Levels to pick for it. I’m thinking of picking maths, chemistry, a 3rd none-STEM subject and if I get really good grades maybe further maths. I have a lot of options to pick from the none-STEM subject in my school like RE, History, English Lit, Media studies, sociology and politics. I’m most interested in Media but I heard it’s not favoured by top University’s and I don’t want to limit myself. If you currently in sixth form or uni(especially at LSE) please reply and tell me what your thought are, thank you!

Hello! I'm applying to university now and honestly my career choices have changed immensely. I picked my A levels based on wanting to do midwifery(history,Psychology, biology) and now I'm applying for a business and marketing degree. So my advice would be to pick what you enjoy. Maths and Chemistry are good solid choices and I know history is well respected among top universities. If your interested in media then I would say go for it, most universities courses don't have specific a level requirements. Plus A levels are hard and it helps if your interested in the subject!

According to Admissions information (lse.ac.uk) , media studies is classed as a "non-preferred" subject. HOWEVER, as the previou sposter said, your ideal career will no doubt waver a few times in the next couple of years. I have found, even at the beginning of Year 12, that there is no way I would be able to continue with the next two years if I didn't enjoy my subjects. There is so much you have to do outside of the typical school day that you will get burned out so easily if you find little enjoyment in your subjects. Therefore, I'd recommend doing media studies alongside two "preferred" subjects, or (if you want to be extra safe) alongside 3 more traditional. All depends on your personality though - I know some people would crumble under the pressure of 4 A Levels, and some who would feel spurred on ) If you're only in Year 11, however, you have such a long time to choose - focus on your upcoming exams before anything else ☺️

Hi, I'm in year 12 taking maths, further maths, physics, and chem, so I can tell you about the three of those you're considering! If you can, I think taking fm would be great for the courses you're considering. LSE says they are "happy to consider applicants offering A-level Maths and A-level Further Maths in combination with an essay writing subject" for both accounting and finance. So if you meet your school's entry requirements, I'd recommend giving it a go. It's better to start and drop it later if needed than to regret not taking it. If you go for econ, LSE's course is very mathematical so it would put you in a good place starting the course if you had taken fm. For me, it's my most interesting subject and not necessarily harder than normal maths, just different. As for chem, if you enjoy it and are good at it, it’s a great choice—it keeps your options open and is, in my opinion, the easiest science A-level while still being very interesting. Hope this helps
