"Outdated" Access to HE course

Hey Guys, I took an Access to HE course to go to uni (which I did immediately after but dropped out due to ill health), however this was 6 years ago and I've seen some guidance around that it "expires" after 5 years?

Does anyone have any experience of this situation, I have spent the past few years recovering from PTSD and finally feel like I am in a stable enough position to resume moving forward in life but now I'm wracked with anxiety that I might have blown it.

Ive been struggling enough any way because I've been trying to write a good cover letter that incorporates both English Language/Ling and Liberal Arts points (Philosophy pathway mainly but also likely English modules), and now I feel a lot more pressure and concern.

I'm reassuring myself with the fact I have good GCSEs and they want 30/45 credits at Distinction on the Access diploma and I have 45/45 so I would like to think they may give a little leeway to the gap. I'm also going to mention the fact I've been completing a 420hr TEFL course, and that I spent 4 months travelling Asia last year in hopes of presenting myself as someone who is still capable even after a large break from formal education.

I'm including in my PS about my mental health because its so relevant, really deeply suffering has pushed me towards seeking a life that is fulfilling and suits who I am at my core, I'm a deep thinker and the ability to do so has completely turned my life around so it feels relevant, just hard to include without feeling like I'm writing a sob story! I guess it is a "personal" statement... right?

Email the Unis you are interested in, with a copy of your grade transcript, and ask.
Yes, qualifications do 'run out' and many Unis wont accept quals over 5 years old, but its up to each Uni to make that decision.

Many Unis have specific Foundation courses for someone in your situation - example Foundation Years | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol, and general info about Mature Students at that Uni Mature students | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol, Email: [email protected]

Ironically its bristol I'm looking at, ive read their mature students info and admission requirements and havent seemed to be able to find anything regarding qualification dates so hoping on a case by case basis they might accept slightly outdating quals esp as they are of a high standard (fingers crossed)

I do not believe i would be eligble for funding for a foundation year anyway, as I already used up my "gift year" on my partial first year.

Talk to Bristol Admissions - they will have all the relevant info and advice.

I started an access course last year and dropped out after a few months. I wasn't expecting so many 19 year olds to be on the course so it was a bit like being back in college.... in all the worst way possible. That said, There was a couple guys on the course that were on their second access course because they didn't finish the first one. So youll be ok, i really dont think anyone actually checks these things to be honest.
You can apply for a foundation year if you did an acess course. If you're still paying for the acess course it gets written off when you progress onto your degree. On my student finance application, the foundation year was listed as a degree, but year 0. So you don't need to worry about the funding part of it.

I'm starting my foundation year in 2 days time and despite doing my BTEC 14 years ago, I got an offer from all the universities that applied to. I specifically waited for clearing though. They're less "picky" at that time, but I probably still would've gotten my offers if I applied earlier. Just be confident and go for it, all they can say is no. It won't be the end of the world if this happens. I'll also advise looking into the foundation year. Bristol offers foundation year for students interested in Arts based courses and dont you need any formal qualifications to apply. There's really good guidance on their website on what to include in the PS and the application process.

My course doesn't have a foundation year, its a stand alone course apparently which is therefore not included in the funding as its not part of the whole degree  I think I'm going to appeal to SFE for an additional year of funding on mental health grounds where I used up one year before
