What if I cant decide on a university degree?

UCAS deadlines are getting far too close and I am still so unsure on which degree to pick, when is the latest possible time to decide on a uni degree? As I know personal statements have to be dedicated to the one subject, what if I decided after A levels I wanted to change it??

Hi
If you don't know why you're going, why go? It's not required and the unis will always be there.

Then apply after your A-levels, for entry in 2026.

The only UCAS deadline approaching is for Oxbridge and medicine/vet med/dentistry.

You maybe realistically needed to already have decided if applying to med/vet/dent by this point to have started doing some work experience over the summer so that might not be a realistic option for now (and if that's what you want to do you may want to consider applying in a gap year anyway at this point?).

So otherwise it's deciding if you want to apply to Oxbridge presently. Firstly you need to determine if that is realistic (if you're not predicted AAA or above then you won't meet the requirements for any course there unless a widening participation eligible person for the foundation years), and then decide if any of the courses they offer are of interest. They do offer a lot of courses and some unique ones, but there are plenty of areas simply not covered by either uni.

If you don't want to apply to Oxbridge then you have until January next year to figure it out! :h:

To answer your question though if you change your mind after applying then you would need to either reject your offers and apply through clearing or apply in a gap year.

If you really aren't certain a gap year may be a good option to spend some time exploring different subject areas independently to figure out what you do want to study. Ideally you can also find some work to earn a bit of money before uni which is always helpful too

You have until JANUARY to decide on a degree subject.
And, as others have pointed out, no-where does it say you can only apply to Uni straight from school.
