About Unit 3 exam in computing national diploma

I'm preparing for my Unit 3 exam in January, and I believe this subject requires the use of Microsoft Project. However, I'm wondering if it's possible to create a Gantt chart in Excel instead of using the Project application. I'm aiming for a distinction in this exam, so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
