Do I class as an Estranged Student?

Hi hi,
I left my mother's home last November due to extreme control and abuse, my school helped me while I was homeless, alongside a charity that placed me in a host family. I've been no contact with her ever since. My dad divorced my mum when I was a toddler and we speak to each other once a month on average over text and every few months I will travel across the country to meet him as we both live on other ends of the country. We have minimal contact and he doesn't have the money to support me or take me in.

I'm also meant to be going into residential care in December due to my host family no longer being a host family, but according to UCAS I don't think I'd be eligible for care leaver or estrangement because I still speak to my dad every month? I'm holding out hope though because I am struggling to understand all these UCAS university finance categories. Would I be eligible for anything?

Hi aconfusedstud3nt,

If you are in contact with your father, he doesn't necessarily need to support you financially, we would just need his details if you wish to apply for the income assessed element of the Maintenance Loan so that we can calculate the entitlement for you.

He would need to complete the PFF2 form which you can upload directly to your account for review. If he cannot support the application, you will still be eligible to receive the basic amount of Maintenance Loan as well as your Tuition Fee Loan.
