New Edexcel Extended Maths GCSE 2025

Hello! I'm a Y11 doing all their exams this year. I picked my options in Y9 and started them in Y10. One option I picked was Further Maths + Statistics. So every term we would switch from fm to statistics. However, this year they told us they changed our course to an easier one, which meant that all the matrixes and differentiation dy/dx stuff wasn't going to be in our new paper.

I searched up what our course may be, and find out the topics, how long the papers are, marking etc and I found out we are doing the new course called Extended Maths, being first examined in 2025.

I was just wondering who else is studying this course.

What's Extended Maths, and how are you finding it?

Extended Maths is a Level 2 Certificate, aimed at grade 7/8/9 students to stretch and further their knowledge in maths. It covers KS4 content to KS5 topics.
It is graded by Pass, Merit or Distinction.

I personally find it great, as I am already a grade 9 student, and very interested in furthering my knowledge of maths. It isn't too difficult as long as you are comfortable learning a few a-level topics and if you are good at applying knowledge in a slightly different context. I mainly see it as a bunch of difficult topics in two papers.
Some topic examples: trapezia rule, factor theorem, vectors, functions, circle theorem proofs

I'm doing it as well and although my school didn't do further maths I have learnt all the content myself. It seems really boring and is much easier than further maths but at least it's more maths 🤷*♂️

Also, how are you revising for it. I can't find anything anywhere that tells me what I actually need to know and worried that something will come up that I haven't been taught. I have done both specimen papers which is where this worry arose as we hadn't done any of the further probability things.

yeah its pretty much a bunch of grade 9 questions, slightly harder though. Basically, I feel like I'm just securing in my grade 9 for maths, that's all we've been doing in it since half the class are on like grade 5-7 in normal maths

Well, I haven't really been revising for it that much. 😅

There is a YouTube channel which has posted videos for all the topics that could come up on the exam: Level 2 Extended Maths Certificate: Walkthrough Videos

I'd recommend doing grade 9 questions, and maybe making sure you know how to prove circle theorems. I've just been looking at what kind of questions came up in the mock/sample paper
