3 or 4 A-Levels Oxbridge

Hi,

I posted earlier asking whether or not I should take Further Maths as a 4th A Level for Medicine as I have to make this decision pretty soon.

I had a taster lesson for Further Maths, and I do feel like I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoy just Maths A-Level - I know oxbridge Medicine doesn’t need 4 A Levels but I’m seeing very mixed opinions about whether it’s advantageous or not, some people are saying it gives you an edge over your peers, others are saying to focus on extracurriculars and the UCAT. I have high GCSE grades at grade 9s, so I don’t need to worry about this aspect.

I’d just like an honest opinion as I don’t think i’m incapable of doing 4, I just would rather focus on 3 that I enjoy but I don’t want to hinder an application to oxbridge.

Hiya I would like to offer my insight on it and hopefully it helps you to make a firm decision xx
From what you have stated I believe its best not to do FM maths A level and focus on super/extra curricular and work experience (and obviously your a levels)! As it doesn't really benefit you to do 4 a levels and it is just overall to have 3 amazing A levels then 4 mediocre grades xx Additionally it seems you would prefer that too. So I think you should listen to the others and not give yourself a heavy workload xx

Either way do look after yourself and I wish you the best with your future (whatever you pick - just make sure its in your best interest not others!)
Trickia
Only gives you an edge if you get four A*s and imo not worth taking the gamble. I got into Oxford (law not medicine) from predicteds A*AA and real grades A*A*A so entirely possible to get in without a ridiculous number of A*s. Focus on your personal statement and supercurriculars rather than the fourth A level
