I'm from Birmingham but go to Nottingham trent for uni it takes 1hr 30 to get there and then around 1hr 30 to get back is this too much commuting it's just cheaper for me than renting a place I drive so just have to pay petrol.

Yes, that does sound like an excessive amount of traveling. However, if it doesn't bother you then you don't need to change this routine. Do what you think is best for yourself.

Hello @Rohan007best!

It is undoubtedly a significant amount of time, but as mentioned by @JDINCINERATOR you need to do what you think it is going to benefit you in the long run. Do you need to come to university every day for lectures and so on? If that is the case, make sure that you factor some extra time for breaks, traffic and so forth.

Have you considered parking here on campus? There is more information here for you: Car Parking UoN

All the best,
Abián.

A 1.5-hour-each-way commute is going to be tiring no matter how you doing. Driving is going to be more tiring becuase you have to concentrate all the time on your commute (by train or bus the driving is some else's responsibilty).

Particularly at this time of year, driving conditions are going to get harder -- you'll be doing a lot of driving in twilight/darkness and sometimes in miserable conditions (e.g. rain, fog), and I personally find that more tiring that normal daytime travel.

You say you "just have to pay petrol", but you also need to consider the increased wear-and-tear on the car -- so you'll need to replace tyres more frequently, for example. On top of that you'll need to check what annual mileage you've declared for your insurance policy and see if that needs to be increased -- and that might bump up your insurance costs.

And you'll need to consider where you're going to park, how much it will cost, and how you get from where you park to where your classes are.
