I have a place in the university of Sheffield for 2025, and I’ve been looking at accommodations. I’ve used amber to look at private accommodations which I’ve found to range between £95-130 per week. The halls at endcliffe and ranmoor are £170 which is such an upsurge. I’m wondering, is it best to spend the extra money for halls so I can socialise and have a better experience? I heard that most private accommodations are full of postgrad students and international students and I’m scared I’ll miss out on the uni experience. I’ve also looked into pinnacles but I heard it’s more for Hallam students.

Hiya, I wouldn't worry about the socialising aspect as the university also has its city owned accommodation which I stayed in and I do not feel like I missed out on a lot of socialising - there are still plenty of opportunities. While there might not be necessarily be all first years in you flat if you do decide to pick a private accommodation, I had a few friends who stayed in private 1st year and do not regret their choice at all. They were actually able to find 2nd years who studied their same course who actually helped them when they had questions.
You can of course ask the accommodation you choose to book at if there are any flats that have other first years if would like to know before booking, however I do not believe it will affect your uni experience too much.
Hope that helps and let me know if you have anymore questions! Jivanthika (3rd year Comp Sci and AI student)
Hi, I have an urgent tenancy takeover on West street which is close to both unis and transport links. It has 4 other flatmates (2 boys, 2 girls) so you could still have the social aspect! They are still in university so are not very old! It is £125 a week with all bills including and has all the necessities within the flat (dishwasher, washing and dryer machine, TV, WIFI and double bed)!
I'm in a similar position. I'm looking at accommodation for September 2025, and I'm stuck between Endcliffe and Steelworks. Steelworks is so much cheaper, modern and only a 5-10 minute walk from campus. Saying that, I know that private accommodations have a mix of older/postgrad students so I don't know whether it would be harder to make friends. I liked Endcliffe when I went on an open day, but it's so far away and rooms look really dated. Although the social life is much better there as everyone is the same age. Where have you looked?

Hi im in exactly the same boat. Also looking at steelworks. I spoke to them the other day and was told that the Silver plus room that i was looking at was nearly fully booked, and the rooms that were left were in flats with 2nd/3rd years. They suggested that silver room with 7-9 ppl would be better as that is what most first years go for. I’m also a bit worried about the social aspect and about the fact that in private city accom there are lots of international students which are quite introverted and quiet, although for the distance, the price and the room, Steelworks is much better i believe. Are you still settled on Steelworks?
I spoke to the uni accommodation team and they said that due to the fact that now only 300 of the 4,500 rooms at Ranmoor and Encliffe are at the £6k price with the other 4,200 now £8k+ there will be loads more first years in private halls eg IQ. Just booked an ensuite at IQ Fenton for £4,500. Can't afford £8k!

Hiya, I’m really sorry for the late reply! In the end I ended up booked Endcliffe as I emailed Steelworks and they said a majority of the rooms booked were older students. I definitely preferred the look of Steelworks because there rooms and facilities look so much more modern, but then I want to make sure that I make friends with the people I live with. Have you made a decision?
