Civil Service fast stream if a member of political parties?

Hello,

I’m currently beginning my first year of uni with aspirations to apply for the civil service fast stream in the future. I’m considering joining a society for a political party on my campus yet I was unsure if this would affect my application in any way, as i know the expectations of civil servants to remain politically neutral, but does this extend to previous activity before joining the fast stream or not? As I know there are elements of door to door and public campaigning in this society that wouldn’t be allowed were I currently in the civil service.
