Resitting GCSE exams for medicine

Hey guys so I’m not going to lie I did very horrible in my GCSEs exams so I’ve thought of some things to try boost my grades for my November/summer resits.
So my Sixth-form is paying for my resits in
Biology-(5)
Chemistry-(6)
English language-(4)
Physics-(4)
So I did bad in all those GCSEs and I’m on resitting them.

So I’ve thought about sitting a combined science exam as it’s easier, less content and it’s just as recognised. However.. it only counts as 2 grades so saying I get a 8-8 in it and a 7 in lang my grades would be
8-8,7,7,6655543 which is not great for medicine(Also I’m getting 2 of the grade 5’s remarked as they are 1 mark away from a 6 and they are both essay based and Aqa)
. Also the 3 is from DT and an incompetent teacher and also myself but I did great in the paper but my coursework dragged me down.
Anyways I’m getting ahead of my self.

So tips:
-Since I’m redoing year 12 in September 2025 (I have to do applied science but I want to do bio, chem) I will focus more on doing well on the GCSEs

-Do combined science

Idk any more tips but please leave some in the comments

Don’t stress about it just get at least 5 6s or 7s get those minimum entry requirements and get defo a 6 in eng and maths and science. The reason why I am saying is now because you are restarting yr 12 focus on ucat and get those good new predicted grades and those minimum entry requirements. Also I suggest you to do a level bio chem and something else.

In your resits, aim for 6 and above in all, then afterwords you would have to achieve A's in your a-levels and have an above average ucat score to make up for the gcses but you would still have to apply strategically to schools that accept less favourable gcse grades.
Best of luck!

Can you not bother, focus on a levels and apply for medicine with foundation?

It’s an extra year but you’re doing that anyway…

I’m 31 and currently studying an access to HE course with the aim of studying midwifery but noticed a few weeks ago on some uni websites that the grades needed for medicine with foundation are lower than what I need for midwifery!!

Yes, but sometimes foundations courses can be incredibly competitive due to their few spaces for so many applicants. It is what I'd advise this person as well although.

Best of luck in your midwifery career, I can almost hear the crying babies 😂👍️
