UCL: GCSE Resits

Hi all,

Looking to figure out whether UCL's courses by the SSEES which hold English Language at a Grade 6 are feasible for me to apply to, if I didn't originally achieve this. I originally achieved a 5, but retook this to get a 9 in order to meet GCSE requirements for university courses. My A-Levels are A*AA, one grade A was a retake.

From experience, I was rejected from HPE (by the SSEES department) citing my GCSEs for 2024 entry. I enquired and the holistic admissions team speculated it could be due to them considering solely my original GCSE sitting. But when I reapplied in clearing, I was given an offer. When applying during clearing, I was asked for my grade in English Language among other personal things where I put my retaken GCSE grade (9). So I'm not sure if this is the case as I would assume they have checked my UCAS profile before offering me to see me retaking this?

I am now wondering if I were to apply to Economics and Business (by the SSEES, holding the same GCSE requirement of a 6 in English Language) and potentially the Management Science course (also holding the same requirement, but by the Management department) if I would suffer the same fate. Not sure if the latter course is a long shot given the competition as my GCSEs aren't great - 7766665555 without retake, but really like that there could be an added personal statement to differentiate myself.

Of course I have reached out to these departments but wanted to hear if anyone had experience with this.

Thanks!
