St Andrews as a working class

Hi, was just wondering if there is a classism issue in St Andrews? I’m from an MD20 area in Scotland (20% most deprived) and wasn’t sure if I’d struggle to fit in due to class divide or general classism

Hi, I am a student at st andrews from a similar background as you. I have found there to be less classism than I initially expected and any I have experienced has not been malicious but rather unintentional ( For example, being I asked where I went to school by a student who went to a private school on the assumption that they would have heard of the school which I attended).

My main word of advice if you do come to st andrews (which I recommend) and are worried about classism is to apply to andrew melville hall for accommodation , I currently live there, there are lots of nice people from a wide range of backgrounds and there is a much more working class atmosphere than at other halls.

I hope this helps!
