What are your predicted grades, have you got at least 3 'sensible' choices plus a much-lower grade Insurance choice?

Hiya,

Will I might not be able to give specific advice about the course itself, you can use our chat to us feature : https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/study/chat, where you can speak to specifically taking Law right now and hear first hand from them.

If you have any questions about the city or anything, just let me know!

I'm a bit biased but Nottingham is the best choice out of the unis you've listed, also a great campus and student environment. One of the best mooting teams too.

I went to Reading for a taster law day last year and the faculty there were some of the coolest, nicest people I've ever met. Obviously, I only met 2 of the professors and they might not be representative of everyone, but I loved their teaching style and how supportive they were.

Hi @Shazzawazza234,

I hope you're keeping well. 🙂

So, after having talked with the Law Department here at Kent, here's a few words that are totally suited to you which I think might help you in considering Kent a little more!
I'll just say this, as from what you've mentioned so far, it seems as though Kent may be a solid choice to consider, given that it hosts a very cozy environment, filled with many supportive departments, is very diverse, as well as has surprisingly strong links with London based legal professions.

Regardless, here is what the Law Department (KLS) wrote:

"Hey there,

We hope the day has been treating you well.

So, Law at Kent is a highly regarded course, and we have strong links with the legal profession, both locally and also within London, which would be very beneficial for any career aspirations. Kent Law School is known for its critical and applied approach to legal education, and incredibly notable for its speciality regarding Human Rights Law, all of which would provide you with a strong foundation to learn the subject intricately whilst also giving you opportunities to secure great jobs after graduation. For example, not only do you learn the law that you will be utilising in your future career, but you are encouraged to look beneath the surface and examine how these rules came to be, who they privilege and who they disadvantage. Both past and current students have told us is invaluable when interviewing for onward career opportunities, especially when faced with practical assessment tasks.

Kent offers comprehensive support services for students, including those with health conditions. Our Student Support and Wellbeing team is dedicated to helping you manage any challenges you may face during your studies. Whether it’s academic support, mental health resources, practical assistance, etc. we’re here to ensure you have everything you need to succeed.

At Kent, we also pride ourselves on fostering a supportive, inclusive, and diverse community. You’ll find a range of societies, activities, and opportunities to connect with other students, which make your university experience enriching and enjoyable! We even have 11 student law societies with several of them being future-career specific, so they organise speakers, advice sessions, dinners and other activities themed around the specific future career.

Alongside the development of skills in your curricular studies, students have the opportunities to practice their lawyering skills in our expansive co-curricular module offerings - currently mock trial advocacy, mooting, negotiation, client interviewing and mediation. We also couple this by providing our students with real life case work. As a mini law firm on campus, staffed by clinic solicitors and students, this invaluable service to our community also enables students, from day 1 of their studies, to gain extensive legal experience without leaving campus! This is also supported by current practitioners, who help on a pro bono basis."

I hope this helps give you a clearer picture of what Kent has to offer.
At the very least though, I do hope you consider Kent a little bit more closely though! 😉
If this does happen to interest you, please feel free to check out the degree website to learn a little more!

Wishing you all the best.

Warm regards,

David 🙂

Hello! It is great to see that you are considering the University of Leicester - it is a really fantastic law school!

The lecturers at Leicester Law School are engaging and approachable, with each lecturer having office hours for students to come and ask further questions. Additionally, the entirety of the third year Law LLB involves optional modules. This means that you are really able to customise your law degree to what you find interesting and what area of law you might want to go into!

There is also lots of get involved in at Leicester Law School! Leicester Law Society host various competitions throughout the year such as mooting, negotiations, client interviewing, mock trials and speech/debating competitions. These are judged by external professionals, making them a great networking opportunity, and often have work experience as the prize.

Additionally, many top law firms have gotten involved with the University of Leicester this year: Linklaters, A&O Shearman, Freshfields, White and Case, Eversheds Sutherlands, Travers Smith, DLA Piper, Herbert Smith Freehills. Leicester is well-respected by employers, and as an example, I have been able to obtain a Vacation Scheme at a Magic Circle Firm in my second year. There are also events held throughout the year organised by Leicester Law Society for those aspiring to be a barrister, as well as events to help students decide what career path they may want to go down.

The University of Leicester Legal Advice Clinic is an excellent way for students to gain practical experience of law. Within the Legal Advice Clinic, there is the Business Clinic, the Family Clinic, the General Clinic and the recently opened Immigration Clinic. The Clinic has allowed me to gain experience interviewing clients under the supervision of a solicitor as well as experience drafting advice letters. In my opinion, I think the Legal Advice Clinic is one of the things that makes Leicester Law School stand out!

Leicester is also a great, diverse city with lots to do!

Overall, if you have decide to come to Leicester, you have made an excellent choice as Leicester is a well-respected university!

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask! 😃
