Cardiff accommodation

Hi im a cardiff fresher who was put in taly south despite not really drinking or enjoying partying very much. im finding it hard to make friends with my flatmates as they mostly only come out in the evenings when they are getting ready to go clubbing. i am also finding it very hard to sleep despite wearing ear buds because i am right next to the train track and my flatmates are very very loud when they get back. i think i will give it another week but if i am still having issues is there any options for me like going to a more quiet accommodation where you can still make friends whilst not partying that much?

Hiya, Ive been put in taly south too and im finding it hard to make friends if it makes you feel better :/. My flatmates are the same as yours, it’s sad as i hear everyone outside in groups and going on outings with their flatmates around town and i feel like im not getting that experience. Im pretty sure you can request to move maybe try calling reception? Ik you posted this anonymously but If you see this feel free to pass over a contact detail or smth and we can talk 🙂

yes i would love to talk but i’m afraid that a flatmate would see if i put on anything obvious so i’ll figure something out and yes it’s very nice to know i’m not alone in feeling like this but i’m still hoping it will get better after freshers when lectures properly start

Hi,

Thats totally understandable! It can be difficult when your hobbies are different to your flatmates, as someone who has experienced this as well. Its a massive misconception about uni that everyone becomes friends with their flatmates - that's not true sometimes! If you're looking to socialise and make friends in a less alcoholic setting, the Residence Life Team at Taly often holds non-alcoholic socials, you can find them at this link here.

The student union also holds a good couple of non-alcoholic freshers events, such as escape rooms, movie nights etc. I really recommend going to Freshers Fair, there are many societies to make friends, and most of them do both alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials. You can find all the info about fresher events at the link here.

If you're looking to swap rooms that's definitely doable, just contact the Residences team at this page here.

Hope that helps, let me know if I can help with anything else

Hi I am the same but opposite if that makes sense. I want to go out but my house don’t go out till late or are very loud. (All boys) The house is owned by the uni and very good location right next to the su and uni. Swapping rooms is allowed via speaking to the residences team. No worries if not but if you want to speak further do you have snap?

I worded that horribly. They don’t go out is what I’m saying
