I think I'm failing GCSEs

I'm a predicted grade 9 student, and everyone, including myself thinks and wants me to get a grade 9 but I feel like there's no way I can get grade 9. I don't remember any yr10 topics and all of my Year 11 topics are so hard. Im struggling to even get grade7/8s in maths, english, science, geography, re and pretty much everything. I feel so demotivated and I dont think I can get a 9 even though I'm trying. All of my past paper practice is so bad I don't even know if my mocks are going to be good.
Take some of the pressure off. You can only do your best and people shouldn’t be expecting you to do any more than you feel able to.
From what you’ve said it sounds like you’re a bit overwhelmed by the amount of content you need to cover, that’s fine. I would suggest sitting down and writing out everything you need to cover for each course between now and your GCSEs. Then make a plan of how you’re going to this.
I felt very similarly to you at the start of year as the amount of content you need to remember if massive and unlike anything you’ve had to do before- you’re also not really told how to deal with that! What I did was i focused on making/finding flashcards for all the topics id already done and learning them all before Christmas. Then i added to them and reviewed them very regularly in the lead up to mocks and my final exams. This obviously wasn’t the entirety of my revision however it did help me to know that I wasn’t forgetting all the content.
If you’re interested, i learnt all my flashcards on an app called StudySmarter which uses spaced repetition so once you’ve learned a flashcard for the day it comes back a few days later- if you’re consistently getting it right then it comes back less and less frequently, allowing you to focus on what you dont know. Id highly recommend giving it a go 🙂
Also if you tell me what exam boards and subjects you do id be happy to give you some advice or resource suggestions for them!

Hi thank you for the advice. I'll try writing everything down but there's honestly too much and i simply feel overwhelmed by the fact that I need to do good in all subjects but in less than 2 months and I feel like if I don't do good now then my sixth form might reject me or like I won't do as good for gcses. :frown:. For my gcses im doing:
Edexcel Higher Maths - aiming for a 9
AQA Further Maths - aiming 7 - 9
AQA English Lit - aiming for a 9
AQA English Language - aiming for a 9
AQA Spanish - 5 but will move up after mocks
AQA Geography - aiming for a 9
AQA Biology - aiming for a 9
AQA Chemistry - aiming for a 9
AQA Physics - aiming for a 9
WJEC Eduqas RS Route B - aiming for a 9 but my teacher really cannot teach
OCR Computer Science - aiming for a 9

By writing stuff out i mean like what topics you have so that could be something like Romeo and Juliet for English. Once you’ve done that you can break it down by what you need to work on.
I did a lot of the same subjects as you (i didnt do r/s, computing or geography though) and ended up with 9999998886A so id be happy to answer any questions or give advice on how to revise for certain subjects if you need it
As you’re clearly concerned about sixth forms, have you figured out where you want to go yet? If you’ve figured out a few potential ideal options, write down the grades you need to get onto the courses you won’t to do (if you know this). That might help take the pressure off a bit because in your mocks you’ll know if you got those results for gcse if you’d have gotten a place or not

im a current year 12 student and honestly this was exactly my situation I went from getting 6s constantly in physics and maths to 9s in my actual exams .my best piece of advice is firstly to surround yourself with motivated and academic people , even if that means going to library with a friend, have someone to hold you accountable for your revision.this is so helpful.me and my fri=einds would have competitions like weekly quizez ,make content recap a fun thing to do. would highly recommend using physics and maths tutor flashcards to help with the content but also to colour code your specification, red, orange or green on how cofident you are and prioritising topics which you don't feel confident in.

Hey, how did you revise for a christmas carol and for the sixth forms I want to go, they're really selective so the better the grade, the higher chance I have. My yr10 mocks were good but they gave the topics so I was dependant and as I won't have them for gcses I don't know how it'll affect my grade.

there is literally no way to not get a 9 in everything with enough revision. I literally revised the night before for EVERY subject and still managed to get 4 9s 4 8s

Damnnn well done. Its not that its because so many people I know have got all 9s and though I'm revising I feel like nothing makes sense especially with ACC, Eng lang Paper 2 and just everything is overwhelming me though I still want to do good.

gcses aren't that deep 😭😭😭 I didn't even know what's in english language paper 2 when I was about to sit the exam. also unis really don't deep it if you get a couple 7s and not straight 9s. if nothing, it will make u look like a neek because some guy I know who only got 2 9s (who was very extroverted and had a fantastic CV) rejected an offer from oxford and some guy who got all 9s and 4 a* got rejected as when the interviewer asked him what he does other than his good grades he literally went mute
hopefully this helps

I'm also in year 11 too and I'm hoping to get many 9's as well. What I say to myself is that just take every thing one step at a time because thinking about all the content to cover is too much. I try to make flashcards on Quizlet for any content I come across like the sciences and geography. Also Corbett Maths 5- a- day helps a lot. For English watch summary videos and look for 10 important quote with detailed analysis. And language watch videos of the questions. My biggest problem last time was time management so hopefully with more practice I will get there.

In yr 10 I used Mr everything English for literature and lang. The best one was the 'only ten quotes' needed for AIC and Macbeth. Also, a 'Glow up Your Grades' was superrr helpful for the P+C poems. I'm currently trying out first rate tutors for ACC summary, the vid isn't too heavy loaded and easy to understand.

Hi! I was also a predicted grade 9 student. I doubted myself and I thought I had SO much to revise and I couldn't remember and couldn't possibly do it. I was not a natural and science and never got above an 8, but starting from September I used Cognito for science. In my practice exam I got 7,8,9 in Chemistry, Biology physics and all nines in sciences because I tried my absolute hardest. I think your only problem is probably not believing in yourself! You've got this! As long as you work hard you will achieve your grade 9s! I recommend starting now and then it will feel less stressful. Go through all your topics but make sure you are revising effectively - use flashcards, practice papers, quizzes, blurting, mind maps etc. Don't just read the textbook. Importantly, GET FEEDBACK on your practice exam papers and take it on board to improve next time.

Also tell your teachers you're struggling and ask if they have advice and get them to mark your practice papers.

Things that can be your motivation: being able to be proud of your results, getting into the college or sixth form or apprenticeship you want, beating your academic rival, knowing you tried your best and the end of exams. Remember some people will not revise at all so you are already better than them.

Make sure you give yourself breaks though - you don't want to burn out. Make a revision timetable now and start now so you feel prepared.

You can check out my Tiktok - Study sheep for more advice on specific subjects.

I really do think you should get advice from your teachers though but don't worry! Also remember to not put pressure on yourself! You do not have to get all 9s. You should still be proud of yourself no matter what as long as you tried your best.

You could use a study focus app like Focus Plant, which I use because it reassured me that I have spent time studying and you can use a pomodoro timer to make sure you take breaks and grow plants as motivation.

My mum takes my phone away while I study :frown:((!!. However, during times when you felt demotivated and down, what did you do to encourage yourself to keep on going? I feel like I need advice in believing myself and just staying strong.

Yeh that's what I use for it. Also another thing I've heard is doing an essay at home and let your teacher mark it to get feedback should help too.
