Deferred entry - how easy?

I'm applying for Bristol and Imperial. Do I have to write in my personal statement why I want to defer? Seems like a waste of words and I'm not keen seeing as I've just finished perfecting my statement.

Why can’t you contact to the uni for a defer after you get an offer?
