Lancaster & Leicester Foundation Year

For my 4th option I cannot choose between Leicester or Lancaster with a Gateway year. Both are good universities and my final factor is likelihood of receiving an interview offer. If anyone has received an offer / interview offer. Please could you say your stats: A levels, GCSEs & UCAT as it would really help me make an informed decision. Thank you so much

I was literally having the EXACT same dilemma but I went for Lancaster. Did you make up your mind?

Hi Anon,

I didn’t apply for a foundation year so I can’t give you any further insight there however, I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about student life at Lancaster.

how do you find PBL teaching in Lancaster. I was going to apply, but many I have spoken to have said they have had gaps in their knowledge due to this system, and how well you learn really depends on your group, and the students who did well did so in spite of it, not because of it.
Hi Anon,

As far as I'm aware, the only course that Lancaster offers a Gateway Year for is Medicine, so I hope I'm right in assuming this is what you're looking to study!

To access this specific degree path at Lancaster, you must be eligible for 2 or more of Lancaster's Widening Participation criteria. If that's you, then that's great! If you're on-track to achieve an AAB or above, it's also worth bearing in mind that you won't be able to apply to the Gateway Year path, but you can apply to the non-Gateway Medicine pathway.

For Leicester, it looks like the entry requirements are BBB, though there's a wider set of entry requirements to meet, which you can read more in-detail through this page.

Beyond entry requirements, when it comes to choosing the right university for you, I'd highly recommend checking out an open day and having as look around the campus! It gives you a great opportunity to get a feel for what it might be like living and studying there, as well as chatting to current students and hearing what they like about each university and why - no one university is going to be right for every person, so it's just about finding the right place for you.

Our next in-person open day at Lancaster is being held on Saturday 12th October, which you can book onto here! That should still leave you a couple more days to make up your mind before the application deadline.

I hope this helps, and good luck!
