Failing UCAT for graduate entry medicine? - Score 2500 (GEM 2025 entry)

I am panicking!! I did not score as well as I did in my mocks. I feel like I won't get invited for interviews😢

VR - 570
DM - 590
QR - 640
AB - 700
SJ - Band 2

My GEM choices were Warwick, Kings, Barts and Worcester but I feel like my score is so bad that I will not get accepted unless they consider my personal statement too. Any advice or other unis that I could apply for instead?

I feel so defeated...

I got the same score as you :frown: Are you still going to apply this year and if so which unis because I'm quite lost on what to do..

yes u should still apply- it's not a bad score as it is average it's ok I have heard of people being accepted with lower scores than that- just apply strategically

I am still going to apply but stuck on what unis to pick as I only did the ucat. The ucat statistic scores just released and I don't think I have a shot at my top choice, which is warwick because I did not meet the mean score of 600 for VR.😭😭😭

I think that will count. If you talk about why you want to be doctor and the experience you gained working with doctors. You have direct clinical experience so I think it will give you an upper hand in your application

I think QMUL tend to prefer 1st class degrees and UCAT scores in the 7th decile or above - was it GEM for all your options?

I’ve applied to Surrey and UEA (gradmed) and KMMS and Brunel for undergrad med. Not really sure what my chances are but gave it a go!

Yeah no knowing how UEA will assess applicants but new medical schools tend to be easy going

It's above the 4th decile for the entry requirements and all my options are GEM since I am broke and don't qualify for funding for undergrad med🥲

Also limited to just med schools that accept ucat and distance because I plan to commute

Hi @samzah and @Eoz1216, I've seen you've applied for UEA and just wanted to say congrats for applying to UEA! I've finished my four-year psychology undergrad there and am now staying on for a masters, so if you have any questions about what UEA is like or about Norwich in general, please let me know.

We also have an open day on Saturday the 23rd November if you can make it. It's a great opportunity to speak to the admissions team as they'll be able to advise on any queries you have.

@Eoz1216, you also mentioned you were planning on commuting? I'm also a commuter student so if you have any questions about what that's like, parking at UEA etc I'm happy to help 😁

Good luck guys!

Hi Grace,

I am planning to commute by train and I live in Colchester. Are there any student discounts available for trains?

Hi,

I believe the trains to Norwich are run by Greater Anglia who do a student railcard, you can have a look here. It's worth noting you'll need to get the bus from the train station to UEA as well, so might be worth investing in their Plus Bus option as well.

Also, if you ever need to stay in Norwich for whatever reason, UEA has the Broadview Hotel on campus as well that you can book at low rates if you're a student.
