Low ucat medicine contextual offer?

Just got my very disappointing ucat results
2300 band 1

I am not sure if I even have a chance anymore. I already took a gap year and do not want to do another.

I got AAB in Biology, Chemistry and maths (B in maths)

I also only have 7 GCSEs which is limiting as some universities require more than this but I was an international student so we didn’t need that many GCSEs back there.
I got 9999987

Any recommendations on where to apply? Or if I should consider another course?

I am also interested in pharmacy and was planning to put it as a fifth option so that might be helpful.

Any advice would be appreciated

I am a refugee so I might qualify for a contextual offer in a few universities, also my college qualifies me for a contextual offer in a few universities, However I am very lost and unsure of what to do at this point.

think abt gateway medicine as you are more likely to get in with lower stats try look into into uni of dundee medical school (ABB at a level), edge hill uniersity school of medicine, uni of east anglia, keele, lancaster. all these are gateway years which you need to pass the first year but at the end of the day med is med your still a docter at the end of it even tho its a year longer all these typically 6 years long. hopes this helps, good luck!

Hi there,

I know it’s frustrating to be in this position, but don’t lose hope—you still have options! With a UCAT score of 2300 and contextual eligibility, some universities may be more lenient in considering your application.

Have you considered UEA? The admissions team generally offers a more holistic approach and may take your contextual status into account: https://www.uea.ac.uk/study/enquiries/live-chat

Additionally, if you’re interested in pharmacy, applying there as a backup could open up another great career path. Have you thought about combining your interests in health sciences with a course like pharmacy? It could give you a solid foundation and still keep you in the healthcare field. I did Biomedical Science and then followed with a MSc and PhD in Reproductive Science, so there are a lot of different options in healthcare.

Please do let me know if you've got any questions at all. I'd be more than happy to help!

Best,
Daniel

Don’t worry about the score that much, it’s usually only a partial consideration when looking at your application. I’d look at the website which shows the cut off score for most uk unis (can’t remember the name or link sorry, but if you search up ‘ucat scores uni’ it should come up). Medicine is so tough, I’m applying after a gap year too, but don’t give up. You can always apply to other unis besides the uk like Netherlands or Ireland for medicine or other related fields. Good luck mate
