Chances of getting an extra year of student finance?

I’ve completed 2 out of 3 years of my current degree. I am at risk of getting expelled because of academic misconduct so won’t be doing my third year. If I do get expelled, can I apply for an extra year of funding from SFE as I’m aware I’ve used up 2 out of 3 years of funding. I do have personal circumstances going on at the moment.

Hi there,

Can you confirm what course you're wishing to do now and when you will start this? Is the new course full time? Was your previous study full time? Will you receive a qualification from the 2 years you have done?

Thanks,
Claire

I have not decided what course as I’m still enrolled at the uni but won’t be attending any lessons. If I do get expelled I want to do a 3 year course for full time. I am a UK citizen. I am unsure I will receive a qualification because of misconduct it’s likely they’d give me no award.

Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. This means if you wish to do another full time course and it was 3 years the calculation would be 3+1=4-2=2 years left for finance, given in the final years of your new course. This means in year 1 no Tuition Fees but you would get Maintenance Loan an Supplementary Grants if applicable.

If you have Compelling Personal Reasons evidence (CPR) why you didn't complete the previous course, you can send evidence in to see if its possible to get Tuition Fees. The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not.

Thanks,
Claire
