The Student Room Group

Changing course

I was studying a part time PGCE and completed the first year (was awarded tuition fees and maintenance loan for this year) however I then had to move house unexpectedly. I then got offered a place at a different uni to complete the second year and have just had the tuition fees approved from SFE for the second year. However, due to an issue with transferring the modules across, I am no longer able to complete the second year of the part time course so my options are to restart the part time course at year 1 and study for another 2 years or complete the same PGCE full time (1 year course). I have decided to do the full time course however my student finance had already been approved for the second year of the part time course (£4500) and is showing as PAYMENTS SCHEDULED. I have filled in a CO2 Part-time students Change of
circumstances notification form to notify of a change to course from part time to full time and the new course fee of £9250 and have sent this to Student Finance England. Do I need to do anything else or just wait to hear back from SFE? Should I cancel the current application for the part time course and re-apply or is the form enough? Also, will it affect my eligibility that I was already awarded the tuition fees for last year for the 1st year I already completed? Thank you

Hi Neville,

If you're now doing a full time PGCE course, you would need to cancel your current application and apply for full time funding on a PN1 Form and post this back to us, the address is on the form. Application can take 6-8 weeks to process once we have everything from you.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,
Thank you for your reply. That's great thank you, I will cancel the current application and will reapply asap.
I am due to start my full time course next week so am worried that I won't be eligible as I already received the funding for the first year of the part time course last year?
I already have an undergraduate degree which was 4 years although I believe I only received tuition funding for 3 years as one of the years was abroad. Will I still be eligible for the full time course funding and it is likely to be approved? Unfortunately I had to withdraw from the part time course due to receiving a no fault eviction and having to move back to my parents home. Thank you for your help.

Can you confirm the full name of the course you are on now and the university you are attending? Thanks, Leah.

The details you have given are showing the course is only part time no full time showing?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi, it wont let me post the link but it is in the Bolton Uni website. It is a full time course for 12 months and I have an unconditional offer to start.

Thanks. We can't click on links, but I can see it on the system now.

This is classed as an exception course, therefore is exempt from previous study rules. We also don't take part time previous study into account for full time study, so you can still receive funding for this, providing you don't already hold QTS. Thanks, Leah.

Sorry just one last question, do I need to post the PN1 form or can I cancel and then reapply online? Just wondering if this would speed things up. Thanks
