Freshers as an introvert

I'm at uni in my home city, living in private student accommodation. The idea of going to big freshers socials is just so overwhelming to think about. I've got friends in this city already, but I'm naturally an introverted person, and I just find the idea of staying in and just chilling in my flat, or seeing my long time friends and family way more appealing. I feel like I'll make friends on my course in a less intense area then a big freshers social.

Any of you guys had a similar experience or opinion. Thanks

Hey - older student here

Don't go along to any Freshers things if you're not feeling it 🙂 It's not compulsory, although can be a good way to meet people and try new things. What interests you? Search out something you fancy trying or observing - just maybe go and stand in the back and check it all out to build up a little confidence.

Sometimes I find it easy to walk into a room with a load of people, sometimes I am paralysed and find every reason not to do that. You will find everyone is cool, and several possibly even feel like you.

Just don't apply pressure - it will all come good and you'll make friends for life. It might not be this year, and it might be someone in an outside of Uni club, but you're going to be ok :-)

I've joined two societies as an older postgrad student (28) and they are both societies that are focused on daytime chilled out activities. Board games, DnD, card games, crafting, creative writing and so on. It's been great because it's all more introverted people, in a calm environment. Opposed to alcohol-focused events, which I have avoided.

Your Uni experience is what you make it/want to make it. Doesn't matter if you don't go to certain events, do what you want to do and you will have a great time!

Absolutely Ok but why not try going with one of your old friends to one event just to try it out
