CS Coursework

Hi, I am a year 12 Computer science student and I just heard about the coursework we will have to do that will be 20% of our grade.
I've been having a difficult time trying to choose what to do because I don't know how to code yet neither do I know how difficult certain games/programs will be to develop.
I plan on doing a sudoku game but I want to ask if it will be too difficult or if it'll take too much of my time.
Is there anyone who is currently in year 13 who has an advice to give for my coursework??

A sudoku game sounds like a promising idea, as someone working on their coursework in Y13 , I would suggest choosing something along those lines given that in practice you can actually end up varying the complexity of that project, you could set up a game with basic functionality that does the basics, but if you do manage to improve your coding skills you could integrate more complex analytics and a complex client server model.

Furthermore, don't forget that this is coursework so your code does not carry all the marks, your research, analysis, design and testing can also get you points, so make sure to work extra hard on those to make up for any lacking code. Do consult with your teachers about your ideas though as picking something to simple can hurt you more than doing something harder and then being unable to fully flesh that out. In any case though I would suggest you make some effort to improve your programming skills now, W3schools and stack overflow are great places to get started, work on the language you'll be using in the exams and polish up on your SQL as these will be key for completing your coursework.

Best of luck with A-level Computer Science!

Thanks a lot for the advice, do you think I'll be able to pull off sudoku tho, even if it is just the most basic sudoku like just making it work

Hi,
I just finished year 13 n I’m uni now.
One advice I would say is don’t make a website unless it turns out very good. For example DO NOT make web app or to list or quizzes . At A level you have to do something which contains a good amount of logic which is not too simple
I would say make a game like snake or chess something slightly advanced
Also Make sure you start as early asap I would say from December onwards
I would suggest using either C++ or python with some libraries
