Economics degree

Hi, I really want to do an economics degree in a top target uni like LSE, Oxbridge, etc. and I was thinking what sort of extracurricular/volunteering would be useful specifically for this.

Typically the best things one can do for these top courses is firstly to make sure your grades are immaculate. Beyond that, good things to do is an EPQ, essay competitions, maths challenges (I'm assuming you're doing further maths based on the unis you mentioned), etc. Volunteering may help slightly as a conversation starter in a personal statement/Oxbridge interview, but it's unlikely to make a meaningful difference in the actual application process (same applies to work experience really).

Okay thank you very much, i took part in the maths olympiad and i am doing an epq for an economics topic, also on the look out for economics essay competitions.

Hii, thank you so much for helping and also congratulations!!! Economics at Cambirdge sounds so cool. I was wondering what extracurriculars you did, and also if you did any volunteering or work experience? Also do you have linked in as I think it would be good to connect there for more discussions.

Did you read any econ books, attend econ programmes or lectures or any specific video or website you used to show your deep econ knowledge or your maths knowledge. Also do you think I stand a strong chance to get in with just AS level further maths.

I read Freakonomics, The Almighty Dollar and attended a nearby lectures. To write about them I showed I was interested by looking for artixles on the subjects online, and presenting my takeaways

With only AS further maths you should check what the individual collegws as some do require further maths but some dont

Hi , so im currently in year 13 doing economics , physics and maths and my predicted grades were AAB , the B is in physics btw . i had a strong set of GCSE's i want to apply to manchester , birmingham , lancaster and southampton for economics bsc . However , i want to apply to one aspirational for accounting and finance and i was thinking either KCL, durham or bristol because it's less competitive and i heard investment banking look at schools first then courses but i'm not sure its a good idea . Can i get some advise ?

You kight as well go for an aspirational but be careful because, if you apply for acckunting/ finance your personal statement won't be so strong seeing as it would have been written about economics. Also, my mate got accepted to c but rejected by durham for economics and law, so durham is pretty hard, and kcl might want an A* so those might be too aspirational

So , i shouldn't apply to kings ? I was thinking durham for finance because the entry requirements are AAB but i'm not sure if Manchester is stronger than Durham

To be honest Im far from an expert on this, mostly here to just share my experience. If you meet the requirments then go for it I guess as long as your keeping safe options
