It's not a thing, I'm afraid. :frown:

Go to a uni in a less expensive part of the country and your student loan will give you enough money to buy delicious, nutritious food for yourself.
This may involve you being sensible with your student budget, eg charity shop clothes instead of new, ebayed used premium business laptop instead of new laptop from Curries, borrowing books from the uni library instead of buying them.

Also, be aware that for many career paths, going to uni simply isn't worth it. You're better off getting training for an in-demand (possibly high tech) specialisation and then getting a starter job in that and then moving up from there as soon as you can.
That's assuming you're a person with drive and ambition and persistence.

What is it that you're studying or thinking of studying at uni?

I don't think it's quite a thing although I could be mistaken. There are food banks, and university Chaplaincies might also give food out too. I definitely utilised yellow sticker items, soups from aldi and free meals from work (food establishment so got free staff meals).

If your parents are low income you should qualify for the maximum maintainence loan and some uni's even have a low income bursary which is organised with student finance.

Yes and no..

I went to UWE and two or three times per week, they did give out free meals in the student union, nothing fancy or extravagant, say like sweet and sour chicken, mac n cheese, anything that was basically carb heavy and cheap to make but hey, a meal is a meal.

UWE's SU is not actually funded by the university but it does provide students free meals. Glenside also done it but I think it was like once per week and meals were limited (they were a pasty and a can of drink).

See further on for photo of menu mentioning free cost of living meals.

You just get more student loan and potentially a bursary if your family's income is lower

Here is a photo of one side of the menu I took last year (2023-2024 academic year) (I was doing my masters) which states it in the bottom right corner.

EDIT:
Just noticed the photo I posted wasn't the best (barely readable when zoomed in), see next post for full image.
