chances of getting into oxford?

so i want to apply for the experimental psychology course at oxford, 2025 entry, but i’m wondering if it’s even worth trying due to having a less science based subject set.
i take psychology, sociology and art, in which i am predicted A*A*A*. i am also predicted A* in my EPQ which is psychology based.
in my TSA 1 practice tests i’ve been getting
80-95 consistently.
i achieved six 9s, two 8s and two 7s in my GSCES (9:8 in science, 7 in maths.)

i’ve heard oxford favours scientifically strong applicants so i’m unsure if it would even be worth applying.

You're correct in that they look for scientifically strong students (iirc they look for biology and maths) but as long as you show evidence of having an interest in science and doing independent reading into it, you still have a shot as your grades etc are very good. Is your EPQ scientific? At the end of the day you have 4 other choices so why not

Psychology is a science. It bears very little resemblance to A-level psychology or mainstream/pop culture psychology. You need to be a strong mathematician for statistics, and be prepared for research, philosophy, physiology, psychopharmacology etc. EP at Oxford treats psychology with the academic rigour it deserves, and may not be the best course for every budding psychologist. It is a shame that A-level psychology is not in any way linked to the undergrad degree, which is why Oxford don’t really regard it as academically rigorous enough to prepare their students. OF COURSE, you should try if you want to risk one of your 4, however, proceed with caution. It is incredibly competitive and I am not convinced Oxford will give your A-level predicted grades the credit Im sure you will feel you have earned. PS I have my doctorate in psychology from UCL and get quite frustrated about the misrepresentation of psychology at A-level and the impact on students next choices who take it (like you!).
