Medicine Application - Chances with 4 Advanced Highers

I’m looking for some advice on my chances of getting into medicine. I achieved AAABB in my Highers, but I didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped due to some personal circumstances at the time. Unfortunately, I didn’t inform my teachers about this when I should have, as I wasn’t fully aware of how much it might affect things, and now it feels a bit too late to mention.

My UCAT score is 2680, and I’m currently taking 4 Advanced Highers in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. My school only allows students to take Advanced Highers if they’re performing above average in a subject, so I’m confident I’m doing reasonably well academically. Through out the years i have taken on different extracurricular such as Nuffield research placements, numerous leadership roles, Gold CREST, Saltire etc. However, I’ve been told at the Glasgow open day that my grades and UCAT score might not be enough for medicine at most Scottish universities, and Dundee is too far away for me to consider.

If I don’t get in this year, I’m thinking about reapplying next year to boost my UCAT score if my advanced highers turn out well. I’m also applying for other subjects just to keep my options open, but medicine is definitely my first choice.

Do you think I still have a chance of getting into medicine this year, or should I focus more on reapplying next year? I’d really appreciate any advice!

Thanks!
