How much do GCSE grades matter when applying to UNI?

I'm currently doing BTEC and wanna apply to the uni of Leister but my GCSE maths grade is one grade lower than what's required. I got a 4 but needed a 5. I'm predicted DDD but I'm wondering if that even matters because my GCSE grades are so trash.
Any stated GCSE grades are essential - not a vague 'nice to have'.
Applying without the stated GCSE grades is the quickest way to get an immediate rejection.

Talk to your school about retaking GCSE Maths alongside your A levels - its usually very straightforward.
You would just add this to your UCAS pending qualifications section, and any offer would include this GCSE grade as an additional condition.
Yes your GCSE grades do matter. If a uni has stipulated you need say a grade 5 in maths or eng lang then your application will fail at the first hurdle if you dont have a grade 5 in these subjects. Consider redoing the GCSE in a year and then applying next year.
