How many days a week do you go to university?

Just wondering how many days i have to go if I’m commuting

Depends on your course tbh.

For the sake of argument, assume 5 days per week. Days however can vary as to when they start. Some days you may have a full 8 hour day, others, maybe 2 hours.

One example was during first year, we would have a 9-12 lecture, nothing between 12 and 3, but then a 3-6 lecture… that was fun…

So in all honesty, you can’t predict anything, sorry to say!

Hi!
It will depend heavily on your course and module choices. For example, I have a lecture every day, but my housemate is only in 2 days a week. The average is probably around 3/4 days a week.

Hope this helps! Faye 🙂

You really do need to be working on the assumption that you'll need to be on-site 5 days a week and then see anything less than that as being a bonus.

Bear in mind that you'll probably have a different timetable after the Christmas break.

you really need to plan for being in 5 days a week even if you don't have lectures labs seminars or anything scheduled you still might need to pop in for something like group work. I suspect your considering to save a little money (lots of people do) but it's important to cost it take a trip down to your uni on a week day hang around until about 7 ( I finished at 7 somedays) you'll want to get there at 9 am get some lunch and any other food and drink then work out that with the train over 5 days and see how much you really halls might actually work out cheaper. It's worth doing a few of these dry runs if you can in bad weather and see if you feel you can do this 30 weeks a year 5 days a week.

Hiya!

As you've probably gathered from everyone's responses, the amount of contact time you have can vary quite a bit depending on the course you're studying, what year you're in, and even where you're studying sometimes. For instance, if you're in an arts-based program, you might not have as many scheduled hours, but you'll likely need to spend extra time on campus using studio or workshop space to work on your projects just to give an idea. What course are you studying / interested in?

I’m studying Health and Well-being in Society, and during my first two years, my timetable was fairly consistent—Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., so about 8 hours a week. This year, however, my schedule changes week to week, and I’m in for at least 10 hours each week, plus additional sessions like dissertation workshops and occasional meetings etc.

To get a clearer idea of what to expect, it could be helpful to check online for an estimate of the contact hours for your course. You might also want to talk to current students, either at an Open Day or through an online platform if the university offers one. And whilst these can change, it will at least help getting a rough idea 🙂

I hope this helps!

Hi @maria8901,

The responses you have had so far are excellent. I definitely agree that the course you take effects how many days you are in. If you wish to know the answer for a specific course at a specific university, I recommend contacting the course leader who may be able to provide some insight.

Personally, throughout the 4 semesters I have been attending university, I have been in class around 2-4 days a week. I take business and management, so a lot of my time is spent on doing independent work. Courses that include a more practical element and is overall more hands on may require you to be in most days of the week.

Another point to consider is some days you may be in all day, while others it may just be a couple hours.

If your timetable causes you issues due to commuting, I recommend talking with your course leader about it and they may be able to make some changes to better suit you.

I hope this helped, please feel free to ask me any questions,

Hi!

As others have said, depends on your course and timetable! Personally, in first and second year, I pretty much had lectures 5 days of the week, or at least 4 days, as my course wanted to space lectures out. It does go down in final year, where I have classes probably 3 days of the week.
