missing a grade for mPharm

my long term dream since like year 10 has been to become a pharmacist. i’ve done two work experience placements, online courses and did my epq on a pharmacy related topic.

i just got my UCAS predicted grades and i got an A* in politics, A in bio, a B in epq and a C in chemistry. my school is a grammar and they’re super strict about bumping up predicted grades, ie you need to show them consistently you can get that grade, or make a massive improvement. in my most recent chem exams two weeks ago, for each test i was 2-3 marks off the grade boundary for a B.

i really struggled academically in year 12 especially in chem and i’ve got marks like 10-15%, mainly for lack of trying and being busy with my part time job which took up my entire weekend. however by the end of year 12 i managed to get 60% on a topic test which would’ve put me at a B

every mpharm course at every uni specifies that you need a B in chemistry… i’m gonna appeal my grade but would it be worth applying to universities if i can’t get up my predicted? i was considering bath and kings as aspirational and maybe medway and brighton as my others (unsure about my options tbh. i’m super worried because id be embarrassed to have to take a gap year or do a foundation year, i really just want to be on track with my peers and with my dreams

Perhaps you need to give up your job?

Many MPharm courses will still make you an offer with predictions one grade below -
one example - MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy - University of Plymouth

Hi @chloeava34

I just wanted to reassure you that there is nothing to be embarrassed about doing a foundation year or a gap year 😊

Lots of students take a gap year to either gain more qualifications, complete resits or simply have a break from education.

Also foundation programmes are a great way to ease you into University study and make friends, finding your feet with University life.

I know it can sometimes seem like everyone else is progressing quicker and it's hard not to compare yourself, but there are lots of people who join University later in life or just make different choices on taking gap years etc. You would not be out of place at University starting a little later or coming in on a foundation course. It's about what's best for you and your goals 😁

I hope this is helpful. Wishing you all the best with your studies and University applications!

please quit your job or a levels will cook you. And beg for your teachers to appeal by one grade.
