Part time job as a student help

Hi, i'm trying to find a part time job, but i've been unsuccessful. I'm not too picky with what job I want, so long as it's doable for me and it pays, so job searching sites like linkedin and indeed haven't been useful, and whatever employer i specifically look up only has vacancies nowhere near me. What can I do?
Some universities offer careers advice, who can normally help you look for part time work along your studies, it might be worth trying there. Or potentially speaking to your University about any campus jobs they might offer

Hiya!

It's great to hear you're looking for a part-time job but I am sorry it has been difficult so far ☹️ Finding one that you enjoy, that’s well paid, and that understands you're a student with limited availability can be difficult sometimes but don't give up hope! 🙂

I would recommend getting in contact with your Career’s Team at the university (if you haven’t done so already) and looking at the university website for student jobs. By speaking to the career's team, they can inform you on any jobs within the university and possibly what's available in the area. In addition, the jobs advertised with the university may seem more lenient if you haven’t got any previous work experience and understand the prior commitments you have as a student (e.g. attending lectures, reading weeks, additional readings etc.) For example, at De Montfort University we have Student Ambassador jobs (which is one of my part time jobs) and this role is incredibly flexible, optional and enjoyable as I have had some incredible opportunities presented to me through this role. This is what I would highly recommend if your university offers something like this and in my opinion I think it very well-paid! Another role, which I am starting soon is being a Front runner and this is a contract of 10 hours a week and again should be a great opportunity during my studies and to add to my CV, perhaps have a look if your university does anything similar to this.

Unitemps is a great website - they are university owned and operate from numerous universities across the UK; (being an ambassador at DMU is through this company) perhaps you can see if Unitemps have a branch at your university 😃 Besides Unitemps, I would also recommend looking at Linkedin, Indeed and Google. I would also recommend, for you to follow a few local business on their social media - as sometimes they may advertise a job on here.

If you’ve recently moved to a new city or town, it might be worth walking around with copies of your CV just in case you spot any “help wanted” signs. Just the other day, when my friend and I went out for coffee, we noticed a "help wanted" sign in the window. It said you could either drop off your CV in person or email it, so you never know! And by Being prepared with printed copies of your CV, it could save you a job and potentially speed things along. Perhaps you could even ask to leave one with them in case future opportunities arise. It can feel a bit intimidating, but the worst they can say is no, and I’m sure they’ve been in a similar position before! 🙂. Perhaps as it nearly October there may be some seasonal work available too coming up especially in retail shops!

From my friends' experiences as students some of them don't work, some work in hospitality and retail jobs, some work in areas that they want to pursue in the future and some just work when they are back home during the holidays. You can always ask around too, see what other students do for work and perhaps they are aware of any vacancies

I hope this has helped

Hey!

It can be difficult sometimes to find work but have you tried seeing if your university has a careers service? I found ours really helpful and it meant it was so much easier to find a part time job with a company that understand what it is like to be a student!
You can find out more about our careers service Here !

Otherwise, I would try popping your CV into shops, lots of places will be looking to take on Christmas temps so this is a good chance to get your foot in the door of some companies !

I hope this helps,

Mcdonalds and other fast food places take on a lot of students.
I know with mcdonalds, you have to go on the careers section of their website to apply.
Some other companies e.g. tesco also advertise their jobs on the careers section of their website.
