Important question

For my GCSEs I would really really like to get all grade 9s.
I am taking my subjects at school, and I have requested the school for Russian and Economics exams this year, and they said they will look into it next week. However, I am not confident that I would be able to get my Russian skills up to grade 9 level by June without a teacher, especially for the writing and speaking. I really don't know though, as I have not had anyone to assess my work (apart from when I did listening and reading past papers, which I got 48/50 and 50/50 on respectively). I imagine I would do much worse on both the writing and speaking. If I got below a 9 and I would have to declare that to the college, it would ruin my application and I would hate to do that. Do you think I should cancel doing the Russian GCSE? Should I continue doing the Economics? It seems like it would be easier to get a grade 9 in, but I haven't had a properly marked paper. I feel I could do Further Maths instead of Russian - I've already memorised most of the content and I think it's possible. Then I could suggest to the school that I do Economics and normal Maths this year and then Further Maths in replacement of normal maths when I sit the rest of my GCSEs next year.

What do you think I should do?

I'm not too sure but do what you'd enjoy most and what your most confident in. Russian is a language so most schools will consider it a gcse but Further Maths is just an additional gcse so some sixth forms will not count it. Do remember that most sixth forms will find the total of your top 9 gcses so even if you do 11 gcses and one is a grade 8 it won't matter too much. In all honesty, do what your comfortable with as your mental health is most important and I would suggest to look at the sixth form you want to go and the minimum grades you need. Also, I'm in yr11 so you should ask other people that have got grade 9s and have done your subjects.

I don't think you should do any until Year 11 - that's what unis prefer.

idk about russian and economics, but i took 7 gcses in yr 10 and my results turned out pretty good, so i would say go for it. the only one i know about is further maths - there isn't that much content so if ur good at maths go ahead!

Unis don't like it though - you haven't demonstrated study across lots of subjects.

You have to declare all grades received .. the only exception to 'do them all at once' is for those who don't study in school.
Why would universities not like it if you take a GCSE early? What's their logic behind that?

They want to see you can handle lots of subjects at the same time.

They won't be impressed since most schools can't offer this ... you'll be compared to others in your school. Why so many when it's not needed? Far better to do other stuff to build up your CV

Unless you're doing 15+ GCSEs in total, try avoid doing them separately. I wouldn't say it's bad not to get a 9 in Russian but it would be better you get that 9 first time around rather than after a resit
