My GCSE GYG

I have been procrastinating a lot lately so I decided to make this GYG to help me be more productive and stay on track.

I am in yr 11 right now
If you have any tips on how do do well for any of these subjects I would really appreciate it
Good luck to anyone else doing their GCSEs this year!

Day 1:
I have been procrastinating on my homework for the last 3 weeks so I seriously need to finish that.
What I need to do:I am pretty doubtful I will finish everything today but oh well.

ahh I was so unproductive today which is what I have been saying pretty much every day since the start of school. I basically spent all of it watching stuff on youtube or tiktok. Hopefully I will be better tomorrow.

I guess we will be doing last minute physics revision again this time.

wishing you the best of luck! hope this gyg helps you meet your goals!!

Day 2:
I did make some brownies with my dad though so I am super excited for when they are finally ready.
Today I am going to focus on physics as I have not done any revision so far. I guess my plans to revise really thoroughly so I won't have to do extra revision for my mocks is out of the window. 😂

I have been procrastinating a lot lately so I decided to make this GYG to help me be more productive and stay on track.
I am in yr 11 right now
My subjects are:
Maths
English lit + lang
Triple science
History
French
Latin
Textiles (if you don't know what this is, it's basically art with fabric and thread)
If you have any tips on how do do well for any of these subjects I would really appreciate it!
Time left till GCSEs: 31 weeks, 5 days
Good luck to anyone else doing their GCSEs this year!

Hii I am also a fellow y11 who procrastinated a LOT last year (tryna fix the habit this year for the academic comeback)!
It's so rare to find someone else who is doing Latin for GCSE 😆 Hope all is going well for you right now!

I am so sorry I haven't posted in a while I honestly completely forgot but I promise to post regularly from now on.
Since school started I haven't done anything and I am falling super behind so this half term I vow to be better 😑

so, today I got my English test back 😭 and it went absolutely terribly, if anyone has helpful revision tips for English it would be much appreciated 🙏

I have my french speaking test in 2 weeks and I have not done any preparation for it whatsoever (I don't even know what is in the exam) so I will try and do some prep.
I also have to catch up with textiles because I am falling really behind in that

I will update how it goes!

Yayy you are back now haha! What curriculum do you take for English? If you take Edexcel, I can try and help you since I did my language exam early (starting lit this year though) and got a 9. Otherwise, I can still try my best to help with some general advice for English once I know the examboard!

THANK YOU!! You too 😁😁
TBH Latin has become one of my favorite subjects in school because of how much I enjoy it and I would say a lot of it is due to the teacher being really good (he is also my form teacher which is a bonus so I can ask him about any problems I have with Latin ASAP which is handy!) In my school, we finished nearly all the vocabulary, just clearing up subjunctives (and review of relative clauses). Also having two tests weekly (one for vocab, other for verse/prose depending on the week) as well as weekly translation task which is honestly soo helpful and I'm actually completing the translation task rn as well!!

Surprised you say that every school does it, but then again... I live in an area where my school is the only school which offers Latin as a GCSE lol
For French, have a look at The Ideal Teacher Language School (GCSE FRENCH EXAM PRACTICE & REVISION) on YouTube, loads of exam revision materials to improve your grades for GCSE French

Thank you so much and well done on your 9! I take CIE unfortunately but any general advice would be really helpful!

Wow your school seems really good, we changed teachers halfway through so it has been quite chaotic

Thank you!! I'm quite happy as Eng Lang was my best and favorite subject (Eng Lit is also pretty fun rn as well which is a relief). I think a lot of teachers probably say this but reading really did help me in vocabulary and knowing basic grammar and spelling in general.
Now I have no clue about how CIE English works, but here are some general tips for English

Check how many marks a question is worth- if its only a few marks do NOT spend too much time answering those Qs. For example in the Edexcel course, the first three questions should be completed within 10-15 mins because they aren't worth as much marks and are easier compared to the other questions

Try not to use a limited vocabulary- this doesn't mean to use fancy words or anything (in fact, I dislike using them lol) but try not to keep saying things like 'The writer uses figurative language to portray.. For example..' and repeat this non-stop. Instead, you can say it once then for another paragraph in an essay you can say 'Through the quote 'insert quote', the writer demonstrates 'technique' in the story...This is illustrated by' and so on...

Do your best to keep yourself on a time limit for the higher mark questions- basically practice doing the higher mark questions under timed conditions and try and write in much detail as you can for practice papers and see how well you get on. I sometimes regret not doing that for my transactional or imaginative writing but then again... I didn't practice for either of them at all 😂

Hope this helped!!
