I can't decide what degree to take

I take biology, psychology and french for a level and im struggling to choose a university course to do and i need to decide in the next few days as i need to start my personal statement. I like debating and philosophy and human rights and justice but I also like science and medicine (I know medicine isn't possible) but I am struggling with wht route to take. I could do a biology degree or natural science but then I'd miss the social science and law side of it, although i could do a law conversion after. I know that biology is the best option to keep my options open in the future but i just don't feel that excited to do it. im so indesicive

i dont reallt think this is a question other people can answer foe you BUT. the one thing i WOULD say is do not do a biology degree just because its employable if you arent passionate. this is a big decision and you need to figure out when thinking of the future what do you see making you your happiest

You could do law, and specialise in health law or human rights law depending on your interests. You could also instead do psychology and specialise in legal psychology.

As you can see, the two sides of your interests are absolutely not mutually exclusive.

Hi gloomy-whiff,
I just want to reassure you that you are definitely not the only one feeling this way. I remember trying to decide what to study at uni, and it seemed like a very daunting choice. However, picking one degree doesn't mean you absolutely have to follow that path. For example, I did a BSc in Biochemistry (which I really enjoyed), then gained some experience in Economic research. Now I am back at Sheffield studying a MSc in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics. My main advice is pick something that you enjoy and truly want to learn. Maybe try going to a University Open Day and go to a few of the course-specific talks you are interested in. Like you, I also studied Biology and Psychology at A Level and when I first visited Sheffield, I attended a Psychology talk and a Biosciences talk. This really helped me to decide which of the two I was more interested in. There's also lots of content online and on course webpages. You could read through these and see if anything jumps out at you as seeming really interesting.
I wish you the best of luck with your university journey. I hope this helped,
Sofia (BSc Biochemistry/ MSc Cancer Biology and Therapeutics)

i'm from London but i did a degree in Scotland - you take three subjects each semester in your first year so you get more time to choose, I chose Biology, Psychology and Economics. Scotland is great 🙂

Why not take a year or two out? Get a job. Earn some money. Go travelling. Discover who you are. Figure out what you like and want to do. Then aim to do that and if it takes you to university, great! At least you will have a purpose for going unlike the vast majority of young people today.
