Sixth form application

Hi

For some of the sixth forms I want to go to, their applications have opened and are open until around the first week of January. So when is the best time to apply to them - over the next couple of months or should I wait until december/january?

The problem is my mock results won't come out until around the second week of january as my yr 11 mocks are in december. So when I make my application will my yr 10 predicted grades/mock results be sent over to the sixth forms or will my school send my yr 11 mock results when they come out in january?

My school hasn't talked about the application process at all so I don't know how the application process works or even how many sixth forms I'm allowed to apply to.

Thanks for reading this, I'll appreciate any advice

My advice would be to ask your school for information on this. When i was in year 11 the post-16 manager starting us working on our applications in around October or early November and set us a deadline of needing to have it submitted by early December. It’ll vary between schools though.
For predicted grades, I did my year 11 mocks in February so obviously didnt have predicted grades from them in time for my application. Our teachers have us predicted grades based on how we were doing in class, they typically added one to our class grade in the hopes we would revise more for GCSEs than class tests ig.
Best of luck with everything 🙂 and i hope you’re having a nice day

Thanks for replying!

Hopefully our school starts talking about it more after october half term, because a lot of people in my year are already planning where they want to go.

Maybe our teachers will make our predicted grades similar to how your school did it as most sixth form applications close by december/january. For places like brampton manor where their applications close by february, will it be likely my school uses my december mock predicted grades/results or does it just depend on what the school decides to do?

I think it varies between schools, so if you want a direct answer then email your form tutor/head of year/post-16 manager or ask them when you’re in school. Also your predicted grades aren’t the be all and end all as long as you’re getting the grades you’d need for the courses you’d like to apply for- is this the case from your year 10 mocks? If not then maybe discuss with your teachers how they give predicted grades and how you can increase yours 🙂

Oh I see ok. My current year 10 mocks are actually alright apart, i'm predicted 7s in most, a 9 in maths and 8s in science but for english language I got a 6 in the mocks and a 6 predicted and a lot of good sixth forms need a 7 which is why I was hoping I could do better in my yr 11 mocks. But maybe I could talk to a teacher about it? Thank you though

Your mock grades are amazing btw 🙂 yeah its worth asking the teacher about predictions, obviously they cant let that influence your predicted grade but it could help you have a clearer idea of what they think you’re capable of especially if you’ve put work in since then to improve. Best of luck! Out of interest what subjects are you thinking of applying for? No need to answer that if you dont want to but im just curious!

Thank you so much, your advice has been helped me a lot

For A levels, I'm planning on maths, further maths, economics and chem just to leave my options a bit open and because I'm interested in them at gcse, but economics will be quite new for me because I haven't studied it yet
