How much should a year 10 be revising per week?

I'm currently aiming for 15–18 hours a week (including homework and GCSE coursework). Is this enough if I want to get straight 9s?

* I understand that time spent grades, and I do focus on efficient and effective studying for the most part, but for GCSEs there's so much content that it kind of requires a lot of time as well.
Hey I would say it depends how you’re spending this time as to how long you should be revising. I didnt get straight nines but im happy with what i got (9999998886A) so dont put so much pressure on yourself to get all 9s. In year 10 this is what i did per week roughly:

One English essay as homework (about 45 minutes)

Usually some maths questions on Mathswatch (again homework)

For Science I pretty much just revised for tests and made sure I knew all the content i had learned. I also did Tassomai at least 4 days per week (about 10 mins im not sure though). I also had homework of practice questions for about 45 mins per week.

I did a lot for history! I made revision resources as i went and this was very helpful so I recommend you do this if you take history- i wished later id also done this for English lit. Then id also have homework of practice exam questions for about 30 minutes.

Spanish i did a lot on vocab flashcards and then homework- writing out answers to speaking/writing questions, grammar book too

For Art I had to spend a lot of time on the coursework (maybe 4 hours a week outside of school overall some weeks i think) which is really important not to fall behind on

I did politics but not much homework or revision for that, other than if i had a test

Further maths i watched videos and did questions, but again only if i had a test

Overall in year 10, the most important things to do are lots of questions to make sure you get the content and also make resources or find how you revise best ready for year 11. It sounds like you’d be planning on undertaking a lot of revision, that will put you in a good position going into mocks and eventually year 11 and GCSEs. I wish you the best of luck 🙂

Outside school - more than. I got all 8s and 9s and basically only pushed myself for a month in December and 2 months just before and during my exams.
