Realistic uni choices for my grades? (History)

You haven't given the required grades for any of these courses - but the usual advice for your 5 choices is :

1 risky choice just above your grade predictions (ie.one grade and not in a vital subject)

3 at your predicted grades (these are your most likely offers)

1 choice below your predicted grades (potential Insurance choice)

History isnt a mega-competitive subject, even at Unis like Manchester, so you could even consider having two risky choices - just be prepared for No.

All good choices. Manchester & Nottingham may be a stretch - both highly popular unis so tend to ask for AAA.

Predicted ABB at A Level (one is a diploma not an A level) thinking of picking the following unis for my UCAS application, am I being too optimistic?
University of Manchester (contextual offer), University of East Anglia, University of Leicester, University of Lancaster and University of Nottingham.

What's the diploma? Is it something that all unis accept?

I meet the requirements for a contextual at Manchester which brings it down to ABB, not sure about Nottingham but could swap that out for Loughborough, just not sure what their history department is like. May need to do more research 🧐

You need to compare these courses carefully - not all History courses are the same.
Have you been to Open Days and listened to the subject presentations - or at least looked at the unit options for all years of each course?

I’m having trouble finding it on ucas to be honest so not really sure, it’s just called a Level 3 diploma on my schools website.

Is it Criminology?

You need to find out; it could be crucial to your application.

The Loughborough brand name overall is very strong - listed in the top 20 universities in the UK for the last decade. Not sure how good the History dept is though.

Yes

WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology.

Some top Unis will not accept this, so check with Manchester and Nottingham but the others should be fine.

Loughborough is not that 'known' for History but if the Uni/course appeals to you, go for it, its a good Uni.
Sussex is also worth considering - History, undergraduate courses : University of Sussex

Hi @Lemmii 🙂
It's great you're thoroughly thinking about your university choices!
To see if those universities are a good match I'd highly recommend attending open days to get a feel of the campus, course & lecturers, and the general atmosphere.
You can book your place for the UEA open days (26th October and 23rd November) here, and benefit from a free train ticket if you live far!

As others have mentioned, it'd be useful to know the diploma, you can a have a look here at the UEA entry requirements for History and see if it's accepted. Could it be an Access to HE Diploma?
I hope this helps! 🙂

Hi , so im currently in year 13 doing economics , physics and maths and my predicted grades were AAB , the B is in physics btw . i had a strong set of GCSE's i want to apply to manchester , birmingham , lancaster and southampton for economics bsc . However , i want to apply to one aspirational for accounting and finance and i was thinking either KCL, durham or bristol because it's less competitive and i heard investment banking look at schools first then courses but i'm not sure its a good idea . Can i get some advise ?
