Should I apply to Durham or Royal Holloway

Hi, I’m an international student applying for philosophy I already know which other 4 unis to apply for (disclaimer they are very competitive) but I’m conflicted about the last choice. I initially thought about Royal Holloway as a safety choice but honestly I’m not sure if it’s even worth the international fees (I mostly want to study there for the proximity to london and the beautiful building).
I thought about applying to Durham and if I won’t get any offer to use clearing or extra with Royal Holloway, my only fear is that Durham is too small and boring.
Would love any help!

Durham is small and boring but a top uni. It has strong college societies so you can have fun there. Its true you can get a place in Royal Holloway via clearing so dont waste the vote.

Hi Maya,

It's great you're interested in applying to study Philosophy with us. You can find out more about of Department of Philosophy and courses we offer here.

You're correct in that we are close to London (only 40 minutes by train), but also have a beautiful and unique campus in Egham, Surrey, where our historic Founder's building is, so you really can experience the best of both worlds.

We have several in-person and online Open Days coming up, which I would recommend signing up to if you can. Here you can meet students and staff from Philosophy, who will be able to give you a great insight into the course and what it's like to study at Royal Holloway. Alternatively, you can chat to a current student to find out more about student life and more.

I hope this helps in your decision.

Best wishes,
Royal Holloway, University of London

Durham is a lot less small and boring than the area that royal holloway is located in, which is essentially a large village. Its also not very near London it'll be like a medium sized walk followed by a 50 minute train journey. And unless you're into picture galleries and chapels its unlikely you'll ever go into said beautiful building. Durham also has lots of nice buildings, that you may actually use for things as well, its the most oxbridgey uni that isnt oxbridge after all.
Saying all this royal holloway is a lot greener with better weather, and the locals wont loathe you quite as much..
