Not sure if this is the kinda information you're looking for but I studied undergraduate Psychology with the OU it does the job and gets you the accredited degree you need to become a psychologist. The main thing to bare in mind with a distance learning degree is you don't get opportunity to build relationships and network with peers and you are completely self directed you get about 1-2 tutorial each half term and they are remote 9/10 since covid. You also have a personal tutor per module and they solely mark all your work so no one is checking them to make sure your grades are fair. I much prefer learning collaboratively and in person so the OU was a very odd experience for me but it did its job and let me finish my undergrad after having a baby. It's so flexible as you just squeeze in the learning where you can, and you can easily work full time around studying so it works really well in that sense!

Thank you! very insightful. Any idea about the process to become a psychologist after completing the MSc psychology conversion, especially that my undergraduate studies are not related to psychology.

It depends on which field you want to go in to but after the conversion you will usually have to do an MSc and a doctorate in your chosen area. Clinical Psychology for example doesn't need a MSc but needs a minimum of a years experience in mental health or research to get on to the doctorate. Health, Forensic and Occupational psychology all need you to complete the relevant MSc and Doctorate to practice. The BPS has a bit of an overview but every sub area of psychology is very different Most do need you to complete a Doctorate though! https://www.bps.org.uk/postgraduate-study-and-qualifications
The complication you have is if you are an international student, which it sounds like you are. You need a right to work in the UK for the clinical psych doctorates, and few unis accept self funded (also expensive) educational psych places. The funding is different for the other training paths but you should look into it before potentially wasting money on the conversion course

@Ranasag

For an unbiased view of any University check their review on the Teaching Excellence Framework which is created by the Office for Students - it should be readily available online.

I did the MSc Psychology (conversion) at Arden and I had a great time. Key things I would consider are:

If the course is accredited by the British Psychological Society

The standard of the Virtual learning environment (with access to journals)

Arden has a mixture of blended learning options at cites in Manchester, London, and Birmingham, but there is an also 100% online version of the course

Hi @Ranasag

We have a a fully online MSc Psychology (conversion) course, link here if you want more info: https://courses.hud.ac.uk/2024-25/part-time/postgraduate/psychology-conversion-msc

This course is brand new for January 2025 and is taught fully online, a great part about our distance learning courses is that they are taught by the exact same lecturers that teach our on-campus/ in person courses.

As Marc from Arden mentions, TEF is a great indicator of the standard of teaching you'll receive- we received Gold meaning we have an excellent standard of teaching which passes through from our in person teaching all the way through to online/distance learning 🙂

If you have any questions specifically about our course- feel free to email our team on: [email protected] to speak about this distance learning course.

Many thanks,
Lewis
