Russell group unis (especially in London) typically have the strictest grade requirements. For a maths-heavy course like computer science you typically need great mathematical abilities, so a 5 wouldn't be seen as good enough. Also, to my knowledge, all 3 of those unis require maths as an a-level and highly recommend further maths, physics and computer science. Not to put you down, but there are other great unis even within London such as Brunel, qmul & royal holloway that can be slightly less harsh on gcses however I would recommend doing extremely well in your A-levels for the best chances.

Also, if you don't mind me asking - what grades did you get for science?

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't do well in science and recently I took a mock test for As levels and receives BBC for Maths computer science and economics. It's not that I have to go these unis, i was curious. I will continue to explore my options. Thank you

Hello!

It does depends on the universities and courses. For example, UCL has "English Language and Mathematics at grade C or 4" requirements for BSc Computer Science. Imperial does not state GCSE requirements for their BEng Computing course - it is likely that they will focus more on your A-Level grades and performance on the TMUA test. At Queen Mary's, the requirements for BSc Computer Science are: "Minimum five GCSE passes including English at grade C or 4 and Maths at grade B or 5."

Do look at GCSE requirements for the different top universities (e.g. Warwick, Lancaster, Loughborough, etc.) and it could be worth emailing the admissions teams at your preferred universities to ask them about how much they value GCSE scores.

If you meet the grade requirements for GCSEs (and it seems like you do) then it might be best to focus on your A-Levels. Any university will prioritise your A-Level predicted scores as well as any additional admission tests required for entry into universities such as Imperial, UCL or Warwick, etc.
However, if you feel unsure or if you are confident you can retake the GCSE English language, then it might be worth doing it to give yourself even better chances - CS is a competitive course!

Best of luck!
