Second Degree Funding - Part time

Hi,

I have been accepted to a BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science course at Teesside University. Can you please let me know if this course qualifies for a second-degree exemption and if I would be entitled to a tuition fee loan as well as a maintenance loan?

Thank you

Hi there,

Do you already hold an undergraduate qualification? How many years does the new course last? Is it for the 2024/25 academic year? When does the course start?

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I already have an undergraduate degree that I completed in 3 years on a full-time basis. The course I am interested in is a part-time program that is expected to last up to 6 years, and it would be for the 2024/25 academic year. The course has already started this September.
I have attached some photos that may help provide more information.

Hi there, will this be at Teeside university? Thanks, Jason

Hi Nmoraleee,

Thank you for confirming.

This course type should be an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules as it is a computing course.

Once you apply, the assessors will confirm your eligibility.

Thanks, Clare

Hi Nmoraleee,

We cannot confirm definitively before your application is reviewed by an assessor however, from what you have advised and your course details, you do meet our standard eligibility criteria. I have provided a link to our eligibility criteria also which will help confirm this for you.

Hi Nmoraleee,

As my colleague previously advised, based on the information you have given us you should be eligible for funding but we cannot definitively confirm this until you make an application. We cannot comment on 25/26 entry as regulations have not been set out for this academic year yet.

Thanks,
Calum

Would I still qualify for the loan if the course included a foundation year and lasted eight years?

Hi there. Yes, as long as this is still a Part Time course then the above information you have been provided still applies. Thanks, David

Hi David,
Thanks for your quick response. I was just thinking, with the course being so long and student finance stating something about 25% of the original full-time course, I’m not 100% sure how long or how many points the original course is, and I’m not 100% sure how many points the part-time course is. It’s not very clear on the website unless I’ve missed something.

Hi there, sorry can you clarify what you mean? Is it this regarding the fees being requested by the university? Thanks, Jason

Sorry, I was just trying to determine what percentage of the full-time maintenance loan I would be entitled to if I were to go on the 8-year part-time course as opposed to the 4-year full-time course.

Hi there. This depends on the intensity of the Part Time course. We cannot confirm how much you will be eligible for until your application has been fully approved and your University has confirmed this with us. Thanks again, David
