Reapplying due to unhappiness at a job

I’ve taken a job at a start-up instead of joining a Big 4 firm because I wanted to gain a broader understanding of business early on and challenge myself by contributing to the company's growth. While the experience has been rewarding in some ways, I find myself frustrated by the lack of direction and uninspired by my colleagues. I feel unmotivated, and I regret not taking on a role at a more established company, which I had offers for. Although I’ve only been in the role for four months, I’m already feeling unhappy. It feels too soon to leave, but I'm unsure what to do next. Should I apply for new roles or is it too soon to leave?

I’d suggest waiting another two or three months. A lot of jobs can be really frustrating at the beginning, and sometimes it takes a bit of time to settle in and feel more comfortable. In the meantime, you could start reading reviews about your company, especially if there are any Consumer Issues being reported. For me, that’s a big indicator of whether or not the company is genuinely good. How they handle customer complaints says a lot about their ethics and values. If you start seeing a pattern of unresolved complaints or poor service, it might confirm your doubts about whether it’s the right place for you long-term. But if the feedback is positive, maybe things will get better once you find your groove.

I would start looking around. Its not a big issue to have some sort periods of employment, you can say a better offer came up. It’s not a good sign if you’re not enjoying a job early days, usually there is at least a good honeymoon period.

But in the meanwhile keep working at ‘being the change you want to see’ where you are. You might not land something immediately and you never know your satisfaction there might pick up
