Wet room flooding

Daughter has a wet room style ensuite at University of Southampton. Despite having a shower curtain, the whole room gets soaked. It is very slow to drain (has reported to maintenance) so the room becomes unusable for hours after a shower.
Hopefully maintenance will sort the drain but any tips for containg the water to the shower area?
Thanks.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having some trouble.

Contacting maintenance would be my first point of call, which you've done. Be sure to be persistent with this. As lots of students are moving in at the moment, they may have a few more requests than usual, but make sure they respond to your enquiry.

Something I spotted online was a silicone guard that you can put on the shower floor to stop the water from puddling across the whole room. They kind of look like a rubber seal and the idea is to keep everything contained in a smaller area rather than letting the water expand around the room - these could be worth a look. I simply searched for 'wet room contain water' and some options came up.

Hope this helps. 🙂

You could try some drain unblocker down the plug hole, hot water and wait a while. Might help

Hi,

Similar thing happened to me while I was in halls of residence.

I used to just put a towel on the floor near the shower curtain to soak it up and I would wipe the whole floor to get rid of the water. Also, I would try and shower as quick as possible. This isn't perfect fix, however, hopefully, maintenance should sort it out quickly for you.

For me, once I reported this to maintenance, they sorted it out promptly. Because, all they did was loosen the shower plughole and then the water was draining much faster.

Best Wishes,

Thanks for the reply.

Maintenance came out and did something to the drain to raise it. It now drains much better.
Going to get a squeegee for the floor to help clear the water.
