Bath Offer Rate Physics 96%?

I'm considering the MPhys course at Bath for 2025 but I want to know if anyone has a clue on how competitive the course is. I've heard the stories of all A* kids getting rejected for comp sci and econ but then looking up the offer rate for my course its around 96% (admissionreport.com/university-of-bath/mphys-physics)?

This is the only stat I can find for my course and it definitely seems too good to be true I just want to know if anyone has something more reliable for this course.

Do you do consider UCAS a reliable source? According to them (see here) 19 in 20 students who applied to this course were made an offer. That's based upon data from 2019—2023.

However, there's a significant caveat: the data is from "This course and 48 other physics courses". That tends to suggest that UCAS didn't have enough data for this course specifically to draw any accurate statistics, so have combined in with every other Physics course at Bath.

It does tend to suggest that the 96% figure you've seen elsewhere is in the right ballpark though.

Hmm that’s interesting. I would consider UCAS reliable so that’s reassuring. Although this just seems anomalously high so perhaps something is missing. Thank you!

Well, in this instance, AdmissionReport sourced its data from a Freedom of Information request made by P. Camayah in August 2021. You can see the full details of that request here. The response, from University of Bath, shows that for MPhys Physics (F303) the number of applications and offers made for 2018 through 2020 entry were as follows:

2018: 244 applications vs. 230 offers (94%)
2019: 226 applications vs. 214 offers (95%)
2020: 206 applications vs. 198 offers (96%)

What those stats don't tell you is the number of candidates ultimately accepted onto the course. For those three years, that was 24, 28 and 35 students respectively. This would tend to suggest that either many students don't take-up the offer and opt to go elsewhere instead, or that many students miss their offers grades and so are not accepted.

You'll get in if you meet their predictions mate. I was at Bath Maths and Physics last year and it was not hard to get in. My course was even in clearing. Physics is still the same - the straight physics course is great by the way, although there are a few questionable things about the uni.....

What "questionable things" are you referring to?

What about Biochemisty? Is it hard to get in as a fifth choice for medical student?
