Eligibility for remainder of doctoral

I had to withdraw from my PhD earlier this year due to very difficult family circumstances. I had received about two thirds of the maximum permitted doctoral loan. If I can secure a PhD place in future or return to my former institution and PhD place, will I be eligible for the rest of the loan? If so how would I apply?

Hi Helencompton48,

If you are suspending, you can just resume within 2 years to receive the remainder of your entitlement.

If you withdraw and then start from the beginning again, you would need to provide evidence of your Compelling Personal Reasons such as a letter from a 3rd party professional which would confirm what happened, when this happened and how this affected your previous study along with a paper application for the relevant academic year.

Hi, if I've withdrawn but they permit me to return for the last two years onto the same PhD, would I follow the same procedure as if applying from the beginning?

Hi Helencompton48,

It is not considered to be a withdrawal if you return from where you left off, that is a suspension.

That would just be a suspension Change of Circumstances then Resumption when you return to receive the remainder of your entitlement.

Thanks, Clare
